Calling all cinnamon lovers

By

Today many of us are cooking more than ever and trying new recipes. While I'm not going to share a recipe per se, I do have a product I recently discovered that you might enjoy: Vietnamese cinnamon.

Vietnamese cinnamon has a brighter color than common cinnamon and a flavor reminiscent to the cinnamon red-hot candies I enjoyed as a child.

I mix it in with my steel-cut oats or sprinkle it on sliced apples - a nice flavor addition with a hint of sweetness, making it a satisfying treat any time of day. Try it in recipes, experiment, play with it.

You can read about some of the health benefits of cinnamon and learn about the differences between Vietnamese cinnamon and Ceylon cinnamon

Good Morning Lottie,

I love Vietnamese cuisine and cinnamon. So those that is capturing two things in one:). It would be interesting to check out Ceylon cinnamon as well being the old name of Sri Lanka.

Good morning Myrl Jeffcoat and Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - I hope you find Vietnamese or Ceylon cinnamon and give one a try. I enjoy it, a lot.

Hi Sharon Lee - does your vagabond lifestyle allow you much time/space for cooking?

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - I only discovered Vietnamese cinnamon a couple of months ago, but it's a mainstay now.

I agree with the health benefits of cinnamon, Bob Crane and Ricki Eichler McCallum - each type varies a bit, so it's fun to experiment.

Good morning Michael Jacobs - I hope you find it at your store; I'm finding browsing shelves not conducive in today's environment, so glad I discovered it shortly before SIP occurred.

Brian England - the cinnamon isn't particularly hot (unless you overdo it!) but the flavor reminds me of those candies from years ago.

Hi Kathy Streib - do you find you use Ceylon and Vietnamese cinnamon interchangeably? Do you have a preference? I haven't yet tried Ceylon cinnamon.

Good morning Maria Gilda Racelis - enjoy your food explorations!

Not space really but then again I am a simple and fast type cook. I have the essentials. Microwave,  toaster oven and single burner hot plate.

Lottie Kendall - I have a Spice Shop close to where I live. The first time I tried Vietnamese cinnamon, I was surprised how delicious it is! I have not tried it on apples; however, it has to be great! I'll bet baked apples with the Vietnamese cinnamon would be delicious too.

Enjoy the spices of the earth and stay healthy!!!

Space for the essentials is what matters, Sharon Lee I learned that when I was 17 years old and shared a trailer with two other young women. I shared a room--and a bed--with one, and had one drawer in a dresser to use. It worked!

A spice shop sounds marvelous, Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP --we have small tea shops, olive oil shops and large stores with amazing spice collections -- but I have yet to find a small spice shop. I'll be on the look out!

When I was a child, my mother would often mix cinnamon with sugar as a toast topping, Jeff Dowler, CRS - but cinnamon on its own is great--no sugar needed!

Lottie Kendall - my mother, grandmother, and a friend of the family also buttered toast and mixed connamon and sugar on top. I forgot all about that wonderful treat until you just mentioned it! Cinnamon smells good too!!!

I use Cinamon a lot, in rubs, on yogurt, smoothies, all sorts of stews, it adds a sweetness without having to add sugar often. And I like to avoid sugar where ever possible.
