The last spot in the kitchen to design

Kitchen remodels can be fun (for someone like me) or a bit of a nightmare for the homeowner who has to live through the whole process.

Most homeowners start with the combo of the cabinets and countertops.  This makes sense since it's the most impactful (and most expensive) portion of the kitchen. And, I think this is a great way to start.

From there, most move on to the floors, and this is where I usually come in. But, I also have done work on backsplashes...since that's tile work and often related to the floor.

I think it's great to do things in this order.  It's kind of like a jigsaw puzzle and the backsplash is the last piece to be filled in.

But, for some reason, so many get tripped up on this last piece.  Most people prefer to have a neutral backsplash, so I wrote this article about kitchen backsplash tiles and it has all sorts of neutral mosaic tiles.

The article covers how to think about the design role of backsplashes and where to actually buy some of those tiles.

It's actually one of the top articles (in terms of clicks) to one of my affiliate partners, and now my job is to figure out how to make it even more popular.

It looks like it's doing pretty well on google, but not a ton of search traffic for this. I think I'll try designing another pin or two to drive some more traffic from Pinterest.  I may also see if I can figure out some other related and higher searched terms.

Hello Debbie - I think it's useful to understand the order in the decision-making process of any project - especially one as large as a kitchen remodel.  There are many examples of things that have gone wrong.  Terribly wrong.  An expensive lesson.

I would have thought that the last spot would be behind the fridge.

Kidding.

However, when I did my backsplash, it extended to and not behind the fridge.  Hope I did okay skipping that...
