- Virtual Volunteering Opportunities -

The United States recently celebrated National Volunteer Week which honors the volunteers who give back so much to so many communities. Through their efforts, people are getting fed, elders are being taken care of, children are learning, animals are treated with love, and the list goes on...

Thank you volunteers

National Volunteer Week is also a chance to explore volunteering opportunities that appeal to you.

Virtual Volunteering Opportunities

Even though many of us are staying home for the next bit, there are many ways you can volunteer virtually and give back without having to be there. I have pulled together some resources and ideas on how to volunteer virtually.

  • All For Good - All For Good has over 8,000 local and international opportunities to help remotely. Share your marketing or graphic art expertise, send letters to the military, send art to elderly citizens or tutor a child. There are so many great and diverse needs and requests on the All For Good website.
  • Volunteer Match - There are over 6,800 virtual volunteer requests currently on the Volunteer Match website. You can easily filter by topics of interest, including Covid-19, youth, technology, education, health, advocacy and community. You can drill down further from there by location, interest and more.
  • Idealist - Idealist has a large variety of virtual opportunities from all over the world. A few I noted were translation help, training, editors, writers and more. The website lets you easily search by area of interest as well as by skill set.
  • Do Something - Do Something has pulled together a list of 9 Places to Volunteer Online (And Make a Real Impact.)  Some examples are the United Nations and Amnesty International. Or what about helping The Smithsonian or on a Crisis Text Line?
  • Operation Warm - Operation Warm has pulled together a list of 25 Volunteer Jobs You Can Do From Home. Crafty? You can sew or knit blankets. Love books? What about proofreading books or recording an audiobook?

National Volunteer Week 2020

These are only a few of the many resources out there, but know there are thousands of ways you can give back while staying home. I saw a few that caught my eye and am excited to get going on them.

Also, if you have the financial means, Scottsdale and Phoenix have many local charities and non-profits who could desperately use assistance. Some of our local picks are the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, Lost Our Home Pet Rescue, and the St. Mary's Food Bank.

Let us know in the comments if you decide to pursue any of these opportunities!
