Blogging is great for business!!!
Blogging is a complete waste of time! ActiveRain doesn't rank the way it used to and this has just become a time suck for me.
Whatever your opinion about blogging and ActiveRain, you're right!
You decide that blogging here doesn't work, it won't (FOR YOU).
It's true, you can't just put any post up like it's 2010 and rank page 1 within a few hours.
We're probably not going to have 7 of 10 long tail spots on Page 1.
A LOT has changed since the early days of ActiveRain.
There is a LOT more competition. ANYONE with a handful of dollars can get a site set up that includes blogging capability. They put out enough well-constructed targeted content as part of a well-thought out strategy and they'll win some keyword wars. Spend BIG money right, and they'll win some additional keyword wars.
Let's not kid ourselves into thinking ActiveRain is putting big bucks into SEO optimization for the site. We're a SOCIAL COMMUNITY SITE that just happens to be founded on blogging. You're going to have to do the heavy SEO lifting within your own posts to get that placement. The site is NOT chasing the latest Google algorithm. Panda, snapdragon, unicorn, who knows?
And if you want affirmation that blogging isn't necessary to succeed in real estate, you'll have no trouble finding it. There are SO many paths to real estate success that it won't be hard to find someone who doesn't blog and is a big time producer. Maybe it's online presence, maybe community work, maybe massive marketing getting the job done for them, but blogging doesn't HAVE to be part of their strategy. So if you don't think blogging works, you can point to them, right?
But if you WANT to believe in blogging, it CAN work. I'm not going to say WILL work, because technique matters.
There are factors.
What is your market population?
How many agents are you competing against?
How tech savvy are you?
Can you write?
Can you shoot video (or pay someone to do so)?
Can you be dedicated to regular blogging?
Do you have the patience, because this isn't the 40 you're running, but a marathon?
Can you develop a niche to take you where the 800 lb gorillas like Z and R.com aren't?
Assess and execute your strategy and blogging CAN work well for you.
So think blogging won't work for you? You're right.
Think it can? You're right too.
