Ask An Ambassador: No Matter What You Think About Blogging, You're Right!

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Elite 513.520.5305 SAL.2002007747

Blogging is great for business!!!

Blogging is a complete waste of time!  ActiveRain doesn't rank the way it used to and this has just become a time suck for me.

Whatever your opinion about blogging and ActiveRain, you're right!

You decide that blogging here doesn't work, it won't (FOR YOU).

It's true, you can't just put any post up like it's 2010 and rank page 1 within a few hours.

We're probably not going to have 7 of 10 long tail spots on Page 1.

A LOT has changed since the early days of ActiveRain.

There is a LOT more competition.  ANYONE with a handful of dollars can get a site set up that includes blogging capability.  They put out enough well-constructed targeted content as part of a well-thought out strategy and they'll win some keyword wars.  Spend BIG money right, and they'll win some additional keyword wars.

Let's not kid ourselves into thinking ActiveRain is putting big bucks into SEO optimization for the site.  We're a SOCIAL COMMUNITY SITE that just happens to be founded on blogging.  You're going to have to do the heavy SEO lifting within your own posts to get that placement.  The site is NOT chasing the latest Google algorithm.  Panda, snapdragon, unicorn, who knows?

And if you want affirmation that blogging isn't necessary to succeed in real estate, you'll have no trouble finding it.  There are SO many paths to real estate success that it won't be hard to find someone who doesn't blog and is a big time producer.  Maybe it's online presence, maybe community work, maybe massive marketing getting the job done for them, but blogging doesn't HAVE to be part of their strategy.  So if you don't think blogging works, you can point to them, right?

But if you WANT to believe in blogging, it CAN work.  I'm not going to say WILL work, because technique matters.

There are factors.

What is your market population?

How many agents are you competing against?

How tech savvy are you?

Can you write?

Can you shoot video (or pay someone to do so)?

Can you be dedicated to regular blogging?

Do you have the patience, because this isn't the 40 you're running, but a marathon?

Can you develop a niche to take you where the 800 lb gorillas like Z and aren't?

Assess and execute your strategy and blogging CAN work well for you.

So think blogging won't work for you?  You're right.

Think it can?  You're right too.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

I totally agree!  What you think, will become!  So it's so important to think about the right things.  Those thoughts become actions and you will get results.  Do something you will get a result, do nothing, you will still get a result.  As my dad used to say, "Nothing from nothing is still nothing" Do something!

There is truth that there are other ways to get your name out there. Often it is through affiliation, social circle. I am not aware any top producer has time or inclination for blogging.  Too busy with putting on make up and making appointments.
Thanks. Enjoyed the article.

Bill, well crafted post covering the bases for anyone considering Active Rain as a strategy, weighing the pros and cons.  Hope this reaches many on the fence.

It requires some thought. You cannot mindlessly throw topics out there and expect results. I also agree, it really works best for a niche. You are proof.

I'm not sure, but think it was Henry Ford who said "If you think you can or you think you can't - you're right!"

So true Bill. If we put our mind & energy into something it'll work. No shiny objects. No "get anything quick" formula here. Persistence. Pick your path and go down that path daily. Over time you'll look back and say, "It was hard work, and it worked." Or not...

I do miss AR and the daily socializing. Anymore, I'm pulled in so many directions (doing it ALL myself) that somethin' had to give. I found, sadly that with all of the blogging I did I didn't get business out of it, Bill. I did meet some monumentally fabulous people, and that alone was worth it. I DID learn a tremendous amount about SEO. THAT was worth it, also.

Til next time, friend!

Excellent.  Everyone has an opinion as you write, and it's all good!  The friendships here and the potential outweigh the negative surrounding getting to page 1.   Well said!

It is true and I have noticed blogging is not quite as powerful as the old days of 2012 - 2013.  Which isn't even that long ago, but still, having a history of Internet presence is invaluable.

Great Post.  It is extremely difficult to get on page one of Google..some of the articles that I did a few years ago have withstood the test of time and continuously show up though.  When folks are looking in my community for Homes without HOA ( Homeowners Associations) my article comes up.  HOA's are really big down in my part of Florids.  BUT not everyone one wants to live in one...and that is where my blog comes in.  Has gotten me calls over the years.  Content is King!

Great post and along with writting blogs, we all have to get opinions on what we are saying, how we are saying it and who we are saying it to. Not only does blogging help get a point across, it can bring other discussions to the table and everyone can learn from comments and feedback.

You're Right.

You're Left.

You're In the Middle - on the Fence.

This community has grown to far more than a blogging site for me. It's about the people and the connections I've made.
