During good times and not so good times, sometimes I believe we fail to realize our brokers are people too. These individuals especially for smaller brokerage firms are experiencing probably even more of the anxiety we as Realtors are having.
Fortunately, my broker, Judith Ritter, is beyond caring and compassionate. She takes the time to discuss current transactions as well as future marketing opportunities. Judy is always there to take questions and help me expand my knowledge from local areas such as “Nothing, AZ” to current best real estate practices.
Brokers have the responsibility of ensuring all paperwork meets the state’s standards and requirements. They must be conscious of state audits. They are responsible for financials so agents can receive their commissions while keeping an eye on the books so the doors stay open.
Sometimes they must feel like they are herding cats between the real estate agents, the clients, the paperwork, the sales leads inquiries, and their own personal lives. Truly from my experience, brokers work long hours and carry a heavy mental load.
By remembering brokers are people too, we, as Realtors, can provide some emotional and mental relief. What I do is sometimes just call to say “Good Morning” or “Ask how is your day going?” or “Is there anything I can help you with?” Afterall, I know how I feel when someone shows he or she cares about my wellbeing.
President Theodore Roosevelt summed it up best when he said:
“No one cares how much you know
until they know how much you care.”
