To Do To Done list

There is so much to get done when moving.

Here's a partial list of things to know or do to occupy that new home.

Get to know your lender really well and stay in touch until you get a  "clear to close."

Lock in your rate.

Obtain home insurance.

Choose a title company and get wiring instructions.

Title insurance and survey.

Know time and place for settlement.

Hire a home inspector, schedule time, and attend.

Schedule other inspections... well, septic, radon, termite, roof, etc.

Review the reports and ask for necessary repairs.

Order and pay for the appraisal.

Review, in the allotted time, Condo, or Home Owner Association documents.

Get estimates from moving company and schedule.

Get your packing boxes and bubble wrap.

Arrange for a locksmith to change or tumble locks.

Schedule move with the condominium board and reserve an elevator.

Get a list from the seller, trash days, and current yard, snow, or pool contractors.

Schedule a walkthrough within five days of closing. An empty property is ideal.

Say goodbye to your neighbors

Note any damage or unfinished repairs.

Change utilities to your name before closing.

Get all keys, fobs, garage openers, and security codes.

Obtain manuals on all appliances and systems.

Check on a home warranty.

Change of address notification.

Driver's license.

Review closing documents.

Wire the funds to the title company.

Go to settlement and write a testimonial for your Realtor®

Hi Margaret:

You've captured the key components of buying a home and making a move. I think many buyers, particularly first timers, are surprised at everything that has to get done. It's like a fulltime job.

Having someone like yourself that buyers can trust to help them all the way through is so important, and no doubt much appreciated.

Jeff

That's a great list of things needing to be done when you move, Margaret. I've lived in my present home for 37 years.  The thought of moving horrifies me!

Morning Margaret,

Right now, I can't think of a thing, except for getting storage boxes to load all of your belongings. That's the one thing, I don't look forward to

Good moring, Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 that looks like a very thorough list but I'd expect nothing less reflecting "the Rome way"....

Good morning Margaret. Reserving the elevator in a condominium building can be an adventure. Great list. Enjoy your day!

Hello Margaret - as you suggest, a checklist for moving is a great idea.  Even for those experienced in moving, your list can jog ones mind which has lots of things running through it when it's time to put the plan into action.

Moving is overwhelming and this list will help folks focus on the stuff that can, and does, fall through the cracks. Thanks Margaret. D

Jeff Dowler, CRS My buyer who will be going to settlement in the morning asked me if there was a master list to follow. My answer...it's all in my head. When asking around and no one seemed to have one or they were not willing to share. I wrote this list and used it as part of the radio show today.

BTW, do you have a master list?

Myrl Jeffcoat And I  have been in my first home for over forty years. No plans of ever moving. Not going to put me through the stress that we see our sellers go through all the time.

Thanks for the feature in OFG!
