My Real Estate World is Red Waiting for Yellow

Real Estate world is Red I am waiting for it to turn Yellow. Pennsylvania is one of the only states Real Estate is not considered essential. The Real Estate Industry closed down March 18, 2020, We as agents have been allowed to apply for unemployment. What a shock it was. Applying for unemployment is a first as we are considered independent contractors and have never been able to do this before but never in the history of this country have we been hit with a pandemic of this size.  For safety and health issues we are under quarantine.   

The Governor has just open part of the state. He is doing this in sections to see how it works. He is hoping that the COVID19 does not spread. The last news we received was that Philadelphia Real Estate our section of the state would open up possibly around June 8, 2020. It is very frustrating for many of us as we have clients calling asking when and why they cannot buy or sell Real Estate. I do have clients telling me there are people showing houses and I tell them well not me it is against the law and you will be breaking the law also. Hold tight I tell them. It will be just a few more weeks you waited all this time it is best to wait when RE opens They tell me they trust my judgment. These are the clients I want to work with. In times like this, we must choose who your clients are. I am very grateful for such wonderful loyal clients.

June 8, 2020, does not seem so far away although some days I am not sure what day it is. I am looking forward to Pennsylvania Real Estate opening it's doors once again although we will be very cautious about how we do business. It will certainly be a new world. Perhaps a better more caring world.

Sorry to hear Hannah that PA made that decision. That must have been tough to deal with. It seems logical that real estate is essential to the PA economy and to the well being of all the people. AZ thankfully made a smarter and workable decison for RE to remain essential.  I hope your state opens up sooner than June but if not, June 8th at the very latest.  Good luck and keep the faith. Things will get better.

Anna Banana Kruchten Arizona's Top Banana!  I am not so sure it is the wrong decision time will tell. It is frustrating and to be honest some days I am not sure what day it is. I am thankful I have loyal clients that do not want to break the law. They are waiting until we change from Red to Yellow. I do feel sorry for agents that feel the rules do not apply to them. Nothing at all may happen to them now but who knows what the future holds. I can rest assured I did what I felt was the right thing. Stay well

I'm so sorry things are as they are, and hopefully will ease up a bit if it makes sense to do so and you will soon be Yellow. It's a shame some are ignoring the current restrictions. Keep us posted!

I feel for those in our profession who've had their "inalienable right" to  practice the art of real estate truncated by "self-appointed" managers of public health. If there's a occupation where a person spends less of their time in close proximity with others, I am at a loss! Maybe the night security guard stationed at a funeral home might qualify.
Each geographic area of the country is different, as such, common sense would tell us that what is doable in one instance, may not pass muster with a different set of circumstances.
Fortunately, I practice real estate in an area where the population density is very low. As a consequence, not much has changed here from "pre-pandemic" days. Yes, we wear masks and gloves and use hand sanitizer before/after leaving the local merchant's facilities in town, but almost every other part of our daily activities......is considered "normal routine". I am showing as much property (waterfront properties) today as during any busy cycle. As a matter of fact, those whose business requires them to work from home, or their business is under quarantine, (closed) seem to have additional time to look at lake property. I have compassion for anyone who has had their livelihood more or less truncated by government "bean-counters" who can't recognize there are many factors which should be considered before making a "blanket effort" to stiffle everyone's ability to exist.
Let's hope those area's where commerce is permitted to regain its "muscle", will "dictate" a sense of urgency for those officials, who lag behind...... it's time to "get with the program" and begin a coordinated effort to resume a sense of normalcy. 
Stay the course and get to the head of the pack......for as more area's of our country exhibit a return to "business as usual", the laggards will be forced to follow in lock-step!

OMG, I think about you every day, Hannah - when I leave my house, I think of you. When I walk through a house, I think of you...I cannot IMAGINE!

At first, I didn't mind - I needed some down time and I got a LOT done. Now, although I'm not going out that much, I'm at least getting out a couple of times a week and am SO thankful for not being cooped up in my house! You are amazing to still be SANE through all of this!!

Today in fact in a few minutes I have a Zoom meeting with the Surburban Realtor Alliance they have guest speakers who will address the House of Representatives who will try to force the Governor's hand to make Real Estate essential. I am not sure I am sane as some days I really am not sure what day it is --oops time to go

So sorry your state does not classify real estate as essential. There are so many ways to conduct your real estate business with Zoom meetings, face-time, electronic signatures, mobile notary closings, showing homes virtually..the list goes on. We are fortunate to continue to conduct our business but it is done differently than we did before and its working. You'll be up and running soon so you will be back in the swing of things.

We could do virtual Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR  but to be honest I would not advise my clients to buy a house without seeing it. Call me old fashioned if you will. The Governor has lifted the restriction and now we can show houses 2 people and one agent with masks must sign forms - it is a new world indeed

We are now in Phase 2 out of 4 phases in my County but some of the bigger Counties have asked to be allowed to go to phase 1.5. It is a bunch of political mumbo jumbo if you ask me...

Hannah, hope you are yellow by now!  We were deemed essential from the onset of the pandemic, but what we could do was pretty curtailed.  No Open Houses were allowed until early July, and when showing, there could be no more than three people in the house at any  time.  And while it was a pain, our Covid numbers have been pretty low.  Ironically, our local hot spots have been the Senate and the White House.

Patricia Kennedy  We are green and now working with restrictions of masks and COVID19 forms. Some agents are doing open houses but I do not think it is wise. We went green on June 4th and the market is as hot as the weather. Great time to sell your house. When I receive a call from a buyer who says they are only looking I am very polite but seriously let them know not in this climate. Stay well
