Making More Money With a Landscaping Business

If you own a landscaping business, you know the struggles of finding new clients and getting the word out. In winter, it can be challenging to keep the doors open. Many people see your operation as a summer business, something that dies out once the temperatures drop and the greenery dies.

If you want to expand your company, make more money all year round and take a chunk out of this $97.8 billion industry, follow the tips below.

Expand Into a New Niche

The best way to boost revenue is to broaden your services. Perhaps you currently mow lawns, trim hedges and plant flowers and trees. Research how you can fertilize plants and grasses, as well. Look into irrigation, tree work and hardscape design involving patios, walkways and lighting.

Once you develop expertise in a new niche, advertise it to new and existing clients. This skillset will set you apart from the competition and make your brand more appealing.

Offer Community Classes

If you want to become more prominent in the community, offer free or low-cost classes. Find out what people in you're area want to learn — such as planting and maintaining a garden — and formulate a series of classes to address it. You can host the event in your yard or look for a public space, such as a local park.

While classes may bring in some revenue, the real value is that people will remember your name. When they need something done, they'll turn to you to meet their needs.

Manage Equipment Effectively

An excellent way to increase profits is to cut costs. To accomplish this feat, take a look at your equipment. How can you care for it to ensure it lasts longer? If something breaks down, can you repair it instead of opting for replacement?

You can also make your equipment multi-functional, ensuring it has a purpose year-round. Use a snow bucket on your skid steer to clear paths and driveways and keep business running in winter. Add a bagger to your mower to collect dead leaves in fall. You can also get a snow shovel attachment for your leaf blower.

Enhance Your Marketing Strategy

If you want to make more money, it's crucial to get the word out about your brand. Develop a user-friendly website and post often on your blog. Create pages on social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter. You can also use pay-per-click ads to draw new people in.

You can market your brand beyond the digital realm, too. Plant signs in the yards of those you've already worked for. Ask clients to refer you to their friends and family. You can even host a contest where the person who gets the most referrals wins a prize, such as a new weed wacker.

Appreciate Existing Customers

Experts say that it costs five times more to attract a new customer than it does to keep an existing one. To save money when it comes to sourcing leads, show your current clients your appreciation.

When you're working with customers, be present and attentive. Try to personalize the experience by using their name and writing notes on their preferences. You should also go the extra mile when possible, such as walking a client through your new website or following up after service to see if they're satisfied.

Expand Your Landscaping Business and Make More Money

If you own a landscaping company, you may think your opportunities to expand are limited. However, with the advice above, you can extend your offerings and grow your profits.
