Many folks vacillate between indulging and dieting. For those who missed out on "No Diet Day May 6", "May 11 is Eat What You Want Day!"
Shelter-In-Place orders designed to limit the spread of COVID-19 (AKA SARS-2) have wreaked havoc with many people's food diets, daily rhythms and overall health.
With the proscription to "Shelter In Place" except for trips out to obtain essential items, people can feel stressed, afraid, sad and angry. Although more people are walking, which is healthy, the "stress eating" can cause even more emotional distress as people see themselves gaining weight.
Like "No Diet Day May 6", " Eat What You Want Day May 11" is a good excuse to suspend self-judgment.
Like any indulgence, it's more delicious when it's earned and a reward rather than an everyday practice.
So to prepare, take a slightly longer walk. Be sure to eat an extra salad or vegetable. Drink an extra glass or two of water. Then give oneself permission to truly savor and enjoy the splurge of "eating what you want" today.
Whether it's cake, ice cream, bacon or pizza, May 11th is a rare once-in-a-year "free pass" from food guilt, so celebrate " Eat What You Want Day".
