Good morning, Grant Schneider when one has the "fire in their belly" there is no stopping them.... it's that fire that keeps the motivation from fizzling out.... an it will if the motivation was sparked by another and NOT truly owned by the person being motivated.... that's why those who go to the gym are psyched the first few days, and then it fizzles.... no fire in the belly.

The point you made, Grant, about being unable to motivate another person is just so, so true. One thing I've learned in my life is that I can't want something more for the other party than they want for themselves. That's true when it comes to people you employ and it's true when it comes to one's clients.

Wayne - ok I will tak a look.
Barbara - yep this is it for sure. The gym is a perfect example.
Roy - hope all is well with you and Dolores.
Nina - I have that problem with one of my clients. They keep wanting to hire people that don't want it.

There is only so much motivation that you can give a person and if they are not internally motivated themselves then they can only go so far.

Thanks for the inspirational post this Monday morning, always good to consider your why and the how. I was always accused of setting goals that were too big and setting myself up for failure, but i prefer to get halfway to a massive goal that not start at all and know I tried my hardest to acheive what I set out to do, and I don't stop, I perservere.

Hello Grant - sometimes it's one motivating factor or a combination that ignites passion and at times that is sparked by some other discovery. Previously unknown.

Brian - actually, they must have it themselves. All you can provide is external stimulus.
Nick - the naysayers are always there trying to tell you that it can't be done.
Michael - oh yes and not only that a treat could spark it too.
What a great blog for a Monday. Be unstoppable and you'll achieve! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Hi Grant Schneider - A very powerful blog for a Monday. F or those who are starting to open things up more and venturing out these words could also be a road map.
Your first two sentences really describe how to be successful in a nutshell. The greater the reward, the higher desire, and motivation to achieve it!

Inner passion, or fire in the belly as we often refer to it, is certain the driver. Dana White even bought an island (location undisclosed as of the present) outside of the US waters to hold the tournaments...Nothing is getting in his way. A

Hi Grant- you can find out what motivates a person and try to focus on that but when they aren't motivated for whatever reason, your results will be watered down.

Grant in my opinion it takes motivation for us to truly believe, and if we truly believe than we can achieve it.

Norma - that right. Once you have momentum you are unstoppable.
Will - thank you. Hope you are having a great week.
Sheri - people have to have something that really motivates them, true.
Ron and Alexandra A - I heard that. When you have a big enough dream and belief you can achieve.
Kathy - indeed you are right. Sort of like pushing a rope.'
George - you have to believe and believe in yourself too. Affirmations do that.
James - that is right. Similar to George's comment.
Roy - thank you.

Grant,
Your post is an impressive expression of the process of "self motivation"! Here's a fitting quote from someone who was considered a great motivator!
"It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference"!

Hi Grant,
This is a great post, but I find myself wanting to see an exercise of how you go about narrowing down those 50 dreams to find your true passion...setup for a sequel post ;-)

I like the idea of listing your dreams! And very true: threat of loss is, many times, a more powerful motivator than the opportunity for gain Thanks, Grant!

Hi Grant,
It is important for the person to believe in themselves and want it bad enough to get 'them off of the couch' and doing something, anything to move them forward. You are correct in that they must have a fire in them.
Habits are a difficult thing to break and again you're right. To do that, the person has to get out of their comfort zone, which is not an easy thing to do.

My goal never really changes...do a phenomenal job representing my clients and giving them the best opportunities to succeed in real estate. It seems to work because (like most of us) referrals lead my business.

Kristel - oh yes, and that is the reason you need to know your why.
Sharon - thank you so much for sharing that quote from Bear Bryant. Agreed.
Christine - ok. Thank you for setting up a future post topic for me!
John - this is certainly a motivator now isn't it.
Jeffrey - I am now wondering how many new habits are being creating now out of necessity,
Erik - the goal will determine the action steps.
Thank you for sharing this with us. Goals , writing them down, looking at them often, reaching for them daily. Have a good one. Blessings sent to all.

Laura - yes, it all comes down to goals, doesn't it?
Michael - yes I heard. Hope you get a great start.
I love the phrase "a habit keeps us in our comfort zone". We work so hard to create good habits that we forget if we just keep doing that same thing because it's now a habit, it (habit) may keep us from achieving more!

Hello, Grant Schneider. Thank you for such a motivational blog. I agree habit keeps us in a comfort zone, to achieve greater things we need to venture outside our own safe space and comfort zone.

Realty Park - yes, venture outside and create a new more productive habit.
Grant, I think if you dream hard enough, those dreams CAN come true. They do have to be realistic too.

What a great post on simplifying how to identify your "why" and use it to motivate you into success! Thanks for this pep-talk. It's always great to have reminders of "why" we are driven in the first place. It's easy to get distracted in the busyness of life and forget to remain focused on your why.

Habits change slowly but they can be changed. How many psychiatrists does take to change a light bulb? Only one but the light bulb has go to want to change.

Hi Grant:
This is a pretty powerful and insightful post. I like the idea of creating a dream inventory.
As I think about it I certainly have a couple of habits I should change.

Michelle - glad to provide the pep talk.
Peter - this is really a great time provided to change habits.
Jeff - the older we get that hard is of course.
Lyn - no question, it is a big one.
I missed this post earlier this week, but glad I caught it now. Habits are comfortable, but accepting the uncomfortable as we step in new directions can bring great success.
I spent enough years in my prior career defining what I wanted to achieve that I realized that I also needed to define what don't I want to do. I realized that I had taken jobs that I was going to hate just to keep working in a field that was changing in directions I was increasingly less likely to be happy to stay doing what I was doing . It ultimately lead to me changing careers. I loved Wall Street for many years but the environment had changed, along with the budgets- and decided that it was time for me to leave. I had always enjoyed real estate as a spectator, and realized perhaps this was the time for me to make the leap and do it professionally. It's now 4 years later and I am happy I made the change.
I use a action plan every day to keep on track and not stray from my target Grant Schneider
