Nolan Kay

Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Nolan Kay was born in Clearfield, Utah back in 1943.  He enrolled at the Utah State University in 1961, transferring to the University of Utah College of Engineering graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.  During his college years, he worked at Lagoon Amusement Park and for Litton Guidance and Control Systems.

While working at the amusement park, he saw customers mainly at the midway arcade games.  This of course got him to thinking and as they say the rest is history.  In 1972, he and Ted Dabney started their own business.  Maybe you’ve heard of it Atari?

In any respect, what you may not know is that he sold it to Warner Brothers for 28 million.  Nolan Kay Bushnell also opened another business you may have heard of Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre.

Your day is worthwhile when you make someone smile, so give the free gift of a smile today

Hello James - unlike Brian England I don't recall ever playing Atari or spending time at Chuck E Cheese. Amazingly, I also don't feel I have "missed" much in that regard.

The subject of Chuck E Cheese did come up in a conversation yesterday.  I wonder how child's play will change in the future.  Well, I wondered for a minute. . .

Nolan Kay Bushnell (born February 5, 1943) is an American engineer and entrepreneur who founded both Atari, Inc. and the Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza-Time Theaters chain. Bushnell has been inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame and the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame, received the BAFTA Fellowship and the Nations Restaurant News “Innovator of the Year” award, and was named one of Newsweek‍ ’s “50 Men Who Changed America.” Bushnell has started more than twenty companies and is one of the founding fathers of the video game industry. He is currently on the board of Anti-Aging Games, but his latest venture is an educational software company called Brainrush that is using video game technology in educational software, incorporating real brain science, in a way that Bushnell believes will fundamentally change education. Nolan, who is co-founder and chairman of Brainrush, believes that Brainrush will be his biggest success.[4]

Nolan is credited with Bushnell’s Law, an aphorism about games “easy to learn and difficult to master” being rewarding.

Hi James:

Wow, that's a walk back in time. I certainly remember the Atari - our kids loved it. And we spent plenty of time when our kids were little at Chuck E. Cheese's. They are still around and there is one not far from my house!
