How to Stage a Bathroom With Black Tile.

The other day on the Tuesday Zoom Call, Eileen Burns asked a question about a listing she’d seen that had black tile all around.

As you know, there are some buyers who would turn around and walk out. And yet, there’s a buyer for every home, so for this one, you just need to make them not see just an all-black bathroom.

If you can’t overhaul/ remodel the bathroom, try these tips:

1. Keep it simple with your accessories. White fluffy towels will give the room an elegant look and not compete with the black.

2. If there are walls to paint, don’t compete with the black tile

3. Don’t overdo it with color. Keep the white towels and then pick an accent color to minimize eye-bounce.  Pick up the color with accessories or even a plant or orchid.

4. Choose artwork that looks like you picked it just for the room.

5. Update your fixtures!  This is an inexpensive way to update your bathroom especially if the tile is screaming that it’s from the 1950s.

6. Add an item with a different and unexpected texture such as a wooden tray on the vanity.

7. Add a little bling with a metal such as in your light fixtures or an accessory.  Something in the brass family adds some elegance; chrome or silver keeps it a little more casual.

8. Make sure there’s enough lighting in the room. If you need to, add a small vanity light.

An easy fix is to remodel or knock out the whole room. Wouldn’t that be nice!  But when you can’t do that and need some help...consider these tips!

Kathy great suggestion.  I think even most guys would have a hard time with that much black.  That takes a lot of testosterone

Hi Donald Urschalitz growing up in Houston, I saw a lot of tiled bathrooms that went from pink to green and also black.

Nina Hollander personally, I'd get tired of it quickly.

There you go Wayne Martin there's a buyer for every house.

Michael Jacobs I saw a pink tiled bathroom once that a friend had. I cringed when I saw it but she did a beautiful job with it.

Best of luck Eileen Burns The sunken room is a harder fix.

Hi George Souto I don't think Larry would like it either.

Grant Schneider one of my listings had a deep blue and deep red bathroom. The owner did not want to paint so we used a lot of white fluffy towels.

Myrl Jeffcoat I might consider it if I had a huge window like the one in the photo I used. But even then, I doubt it. Thank you for the feature in your group.

Anna Banana Kruchten Arizona's Top Banana! I think you see them a lot in areas with older homes.

First of all, I'm SOOO sorry to have missed your Zoom. Life here has been zooming  - clients finally coming out of the woodwork. Not complaining, just explaining.  And tomorrow, we head out on a secret mission - it too will be explained. ;)   Thanks for the black bathroom tips, you're spot on - here's one I saw that is in a $1.3 million dollar house that just sold. This house was built within the last year too.  I really think it's elegant.

Would have learned a few tips from you had I joined the zoom meeting Kathy for the $1MIL listing that will be going live in the next week. I do agree that white offsets the black, creating an elegant quality to the decor. I hope to catch the next one, if possible!

Hi Kathy:

Those are great suggestions! I have seen a couple of all black baths, and one that was pretty much all gold and yellow with a sunken tub. Amazing.

I remember showing a home in Boston where the one main bathroom was all pink - flooring fixtures, tile walls and ceiling.  It felt a little pepto-bismolish.

Jeff
