Find the Joy of the Moment

After over 9 weeks of Shelter-in-Place, finding joy and happiness in the simple pleasures of life have taken on a new importance for many of us.

Slowly, prudently, more park lands in our area are open. This picture of a friend at Edgewood County Park in San Mateo County expresses complete joy in the moment. Every time I see it, I can't help but smile.

Joy. Woman on sunny hiking trail

The painted rock we spotted on a trail in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Since I need to return some equipment to a seller who now lives in Sausalito, we took advantage of a nearby trail and hiked up to a glorious rocky outcrop with views of Sausalito, Richardson Bay and beyond. There, much to our delight, was sitting this beautifully painted rock. Another reason to smile.

Further on, our hike took us down steep trails into woodland valleys, where we spotted a number of "fairy houses" along the trail. Here is one to share with you. More smiles.

"Fairy House" along a woodland trail

Wishing you all many reasons to smile and to find the joy.

Many painted rocks have been found in our home community.

A good project for any area.

I start seeing painted rocks in our neighborhood. I know it is from our neighbor's daughter. The dozen rocks moved around to different trails.  Also see some interesting chalk painting on different drive ways to express themselves.

Have a great summer.

Hi Lottie:

What a wonderful, feel-good post. I haven't seen any painted rocks or fairy houses but will have to look for some in our neighborhood. Our parks and trails are now open as well and people are enjoying them.

Good morning, Joan Cox - the wharf that burned housed fish processing plants; disrupted the cycle for sure. But--the fire was contained to about 2/3 of that one pier, Fisherman's Wharf remains.

Hello Kat Palmiotti - "joy" is almost palpable in the photo of my friend, right? I'm not in the Lake District of England this morning, where I thought I'd be, but my mini-adventures close to home are bringing a lot of pleasure and happiness.

Good morning, Grant Schneider - being outdoors is a treat to me, one I enjoy every day, although I sunburn so badly I take all kinds of precautions to keep safe!

Hello Roy Kelley and Sam Shueh - isn't it fun to come across a painted rock, a chalk message, or teddy bears and signs in windows? The sense of community is felt and appreciated.

Good morning, Jeff Dowler, CRS - keep your eyes open when you're out and about; I suspect you'll find lots of uplifting little "gifts," whether a pretty rock, a window display or other message.

Great way to keep a smile on our faces.  Thanks for sharing, I love the painted rocks, I'm thinking about asking my grandbabies to paint me a few rocks for my front porch area. I'm so glad that Kathy Streib included your post, just reading the headlines, made me smile.

Have a great week.
