North Carolina Begins "Safer At Home" Phase 2 Re-Opening Friday, May 22 At 5:00 PM
North Carolina's Governor Cooper announced a modified "Stay At Home" Phase 2 re-opening of North Carolina businesses on Wednesday, May 20th called "Safer At Home." Phase 2 is expected to last for at least five weeks through Friday, June 26th.
Businesses that can open with restrictions for the "Safer At Home" Phase 2 are:
- Personal care businesses like salons and barbers can now re-open at 50% capacity with face covering and specific cleaning requirements and restrictions on the number of people in a waiting area.
- Swimming pools can open at 50% capacity.
- Overnight and day camps can open with safety rules.
- Childcare facilities can stay open.
- Restaurants can now re-open for dine-in customers at 50% capacity with minimum six foot table distancing and specific cleaning requirements.
Businesses that cannot re-open during the "Safer At Home" Phase 2 are:
- Bars and nightclubs
- Bingo parlors and other gaming establishments
- Bowling alleys
- Indoor exercise and fitness facilities, health clubs, gyms
- Movie theatres
- Amusement parks
- Reception venues
- Skating rinks
- Public playgrounds
Additionally, Phase 2 limits gatherings of people to no more than 10 people indoors or 25 people outdoors at conference centers; stadiums and sports arenas; amphitheaters; and groups at parks or beaches. Maintaining a social distance of at least six feet from others and wearing a face covering whenever distancing is not possible continues to be strongly encouraged. Those who are part of the vulnerable population are encouraged to continue to stay at home as much as possible.
Teleworking continues to be encouraged during "Safer At Home" Phase 2. Restrictions on nursing homes and congregant care remain in place.
