Carlsbad Art in the Village 2020 Rescheduled for August 23rd

Carlsbad Art in the Village 2020 will be August 23rd

The 22nd Annual Art in the Village Fair for 2020 was scheduled for June 28th, earlier in the summer than in the past, but has now been moved to August 23rd, given the pandemic and current restrictions.

This popular annual art fair is being sponsored by the Carlsbad Village Association, and will take place in downtown Carlsbad Village along State Street and Grand Avenue as it always does. The event is FREE and runs from 9 am until 5 pm.

Carlsbad is well known for its 1-day fairs (there are several each year…this year being an exception), and whether you are an art lover, or not, this fun for a summer Sunday, whether you just browse OR buy!!

Art in the Village booths

The 2020 Art in the Village Fair will feature works of art from around 110 local and regional artists, plus interactive demonstrations, performance art and live music. All the artwork is handcrafted by the artists.

We went again last year, and if this year is similar you will be impressed with the diversity – hand-painted clothing, fine art, contemporary and classical sculpture, ceramics and pottery, all kinds of jewelry, paintings (oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media), wood working, furniture, and accessories.

Of course you don’t want to forget your wallet so you can have some fun!

Once again the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Department will host a Family Open Studios as they did last year. This is a free and fun art-making work shop for everyone.

And for the second year there will be a craft beer and wine Tasting Room (21 and older only!).

Our August weather is usually pretty good and a great time to enjoy the outdoors and the beach. The Carlsbad Village art fairs are always crowded, so expect some parking challenges in town - but thankfully our parking is free - and consider your time accordingly.

The commuter rail, the Coaster, is close by (right in the heart of the Village) if you prefer public transportation or are coming from a distance.

And if you actually get tired of exploring the art fair, there are plenty of retailers in the downtown area to visit, and numerous dining options in Carlsbad Village to enjoy either during or after the event.

And of course our beautiful Carlsbad beaches are just a couple of blocks away.

Hi Jeff... so nice to know this event is being postponed and not outright cancelled. The NC State Fair is in danger of cancellation after a 75 year run... the last time it was cancelled was during WWII.

Hi Grant Schneider

Definitely. I normally write about alot of events each year, especially for the summer, and everything has been canceled. A few things are being recheduled.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I agree Nina Hollander  but we'll see how things develop.

So many big events are no longer being held this year - our San Diego County Fair will not take place in 2020, and the Hollywood Bowl in LA was canceled. I'm glad to see things opening up (including resturants in our next phase) and hope it all goes well!

Jeff waiting an extra month for this fair is not bad, and it sure beats it being canceled.

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS - I echo what Nina Hollander said. So many areas are canceling events instead of postponing them.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel

Yes, our restaurants are opening up as well, with some pretty strict restrictions from what I have seen.

I hope it will still happen George Souto  It's a fun event and so many artists benefit from participating. We have 3 months so I am hopeful!

Things are opening up now so hopefully that will help. Our annual TGIF Concerts in the Park in Carlsbad have been canceled for this year - so disappointed, as I'm sure many are, but understandable.
