This morning, Ron and Alexandra Seigel posted the most adorable photo and described what has become a Saturday morning routine for them. If you've missed their post, take a look here.
While my Saturday morning routine doesn't take me past anything quite as adorable, it is a pleasure to me nonetheless.
The morning starts with a trip to Whole Foods at 8:00 AM, during "senior" hours. The entire trip takes 35 minutes; 10 minute walk there, breeze right into the sanitized store, shop in uncrowded conditions, straight through the check out, where the checker carefully wipes down the checkstand food belt between every customer, 10 minute walk home! I've had a chance to breathe, to move my body, accomplish a delightful task.
Next, at 9:00AM, I like to join a drop-in, donation-based qi gong class. Rebecca Grossbard holds this donation-based class on Saturdays outdoors at the very top of Lafayette Park, a steep 3-block climb from my place. Slow, methodical movements under the shade of towering eucalyptus trees, with views of SF Bay, a breeze wafting over us and sounds of the wild parrots and other birds is magical. One can feel all stress dissolve and smiles come more freely and naturally. By 10:00AM I'm heading back home--downhill this time! (No picnics at present, but imagine 5 or 7 people practicing qi gong in this beautiful space.)
Next comes a new treat which has now become a Saturday morning delight -- a 10-minute walk to nearby Pralin Bakehouse on Polk Street at 10:30AM, or other time we might choose. We pick up our previously ordered goodies--a loaf of fabulous bread, a tart to share, or a piece of lemon brioche. This cottage bakery is fully licensed by the City, and is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our neighborhoods so delightful. Read Loic's story how his bakery came to be -- if you're like me, you'll enjoy it, and wait until you see pictures of his creations!
By now, it is around 11:00AM, and I'm ready to spend some time at the computer before heading out for a short hike, a walk to my urban garden plot, or to talk & Zoom with clients.
Please share some of your Saturday morning routines that have developed over the last couple of months. I look forward to reading about them.
