My Saturday morning routine

By
Real Estate Agent with Compass CA DRE# 01215160

This morning, Ron and Alexandra Seigel posted the most adorable photo and described what has become a Saturday morning routine for them. If you've missed their post, take a look here.

While my Saturday morning routine doesn't take me past anything quite as adorable, it is a pleasure to me nonetheless.

The morning starts with a trip to Whole Foods  at 8:00 AM, during "senior" hours. The entire trip takes 35 minutes; 10 minute walk there, breeze right into the sanitized store, shop in uncrowded conditions, straight through the check out, where the checker carefully wipes down the checkstand food belt between every customer, 10 minute walk home! I've had a chance to breathe, to move my body, accomplish a delightful task.

Next, at 9:00AM, I like to join a drop-in, donation-based qi gong class. Rebecca Grossbard holds this donation-based class on Saturdays outdoors at the very top of Lafayette Park, a steep 3-block climb from my place. Slow, methodical movements under the shade of towering eucalyptus trees, with views of SF Bay, a breeze wafting over us and sounds of the wild parrots and other birds is magical. One can feel all stress dissolve and smiles come more freely and naturally. By 10:00AM I'm heading back home--downhill this time! (No picnics at present, but imagine 5 or 7 people practicing qi gong in this beautiful space.)

Next comes a new treat which has now become a Saturday morning delight -- a 10-minute walk to nearby Pralin Bakehouse on Polk Street at 10:30AM, or other time we might choose. We pick up our previously ordered goodies--a loaf of fabulous bread, a tart to share, or a piece of lemon brioche. This cottage bakery is fully licensed by the City, and is a great example of the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our neighborhoods so delightful. Read Loic's story how his bakery came to be -- if you're like me, you'll enjoy it, and wait until you see pictures of his creations!

By now, it is around 11:00AM, and I'm ready to spend some time at the computer before heading out for a short hike, a walk to my urban garden plot, or to talk & Zoom with clients.

Please share some of your Saturday morning routines that have developed over the last couple of months. I look forward to reading about them.

That is a wonderful morning routine and mine does not even begin to compare since my morning routine mainly revolves around playing in the Rain.

Hi Lottie,
Your Saturday routine sounds lovely and refreshing (for the mind and body).  I have my little "every morning" routine that gets changed up a bit depending on what's going on. I enjoy it.

Saturdays still remain my favorite day of the week, althought I have been spending them a little differently since the pandemic.  I think little routines help us to reset the clock, and set the world right once again.

Lottie I am a person who also likes structure.  By the way I love bread.  I could make a meal of just bread, and the bread in your picture looks amazing.

Hello Jeffrey Richman and George Souto - Pralin Bakehouse's sourdough bread is out of this world! Chewy, tangy with a delicious crust -- it was still warm from the oven when I picked it up last week.

Hi Sheila Anderson - all is well here, as I trust it is for you. Thanks for stopping by--always great to see you.

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - nice that you are so productively busy. Are you finding more people than usual are ready to move from cities to quieter areas like yours?

Happy Sunday, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - I'm loving the unhurried structure of my Saturday mornings and will enjoy them while they last!

Hello Sharon Lee - San Francisco is fortunate to have many city parks, both large and small. Lafayette Park is the one closest to my house; the top is my favorite spot--shady, stunning views, big trees, bird song....

Hi Kathy Streib - your morning walk is a delightful habit, and eating breakfast outdoors sounds divine. We'll often have picnic lunches, sometimes picnic dinners (or sidewalk dining in North Beach when that was "a thing") but with no outdoor space here, breakfast outdoors is usually a vacation treat.

Hi Bob Crane - congratulations on being busy--I trust it is productively so. When I have these types of Saturday mornings, I'm ready for a busy afternoon--refreshed and relaxed. Has the Franciscan  meeting room re-opened yet? I haven't volunteered serving meals at Glide nearly as long as you've been helping your group, but find I'm missing it a lot.

Hi Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS and Kat Palmiotti - I know I won't be able to keep that Saturday morning routine indefinitely, so I'm actively enjoying it now. I hope you have something special in your week that gives you time to recharge.

Hello Brian England - playing in the Rain can be a nice relaxing way to start a day; nothing wrong with that.

Carol Williams - Hi "Golfer Girl!" I'm sure your routines work nicely for you. Funny thing about routines; we tend to think we want "freedom" when really having routines and structure gives one freedom.

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten Arizona's Top Banana! - I know you understand how my Saturday mornings refresh and replenish me. I suspect you have your own routines during the week that do the same for you. Is it getting too hot to hike mid-day now? Do you like to head out early morning, or do you prefer evenings?

Hello Myrl Jeffcoat - I agree with you; we need routines now more than ever to keep us on an even keel. The thing with routines is they need to be flexible enough to fit the day, rather than rigid. Thanks for the Old Farts Group feature!

Lottie, what a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning!   We had a downpour of rain most of the day, messing up anything outdoors.

Our weather has been gorgeous, Joan Cox - but today is the first of an expected 4-day heat wave -- if weather travels from the west to you, warm sunny skies might be there soon!

Roy Kelley - our Whole Foods is so very well run I feel safe going there once a week, although cases are still increasing in California. I hope the situation improves soon for every area, and that Chef Dolores can return to WF with confidence.

Hi Lottie:

Sounds like a wonderful way to get some exercise, enjoy fresh air, and accomplish your shopping. I have a 2 mile+ walk to the grocery store which is not going to happen!
