Few things can really ruin your day at home like a clogged drain.

Whether it's for the bathtub, the washbasin, or your kitchen sink, a clogged drain can bring your productivity to nil as you wrestle with the dirty, collected water in the basin and try to get things flowing again.

To help you get things back in tip-top shape with your plumbing system, we'll teach you how to unclog your blocked drains.

Use Drain Cleaner

The first step for you to consider is to use a drain cleaner solution. These highly acidic solutions go down your drain. The acidic properties of the solution will eat into whatever is obstructing the flow of the drainage.

Be careful, however — the acidic nature can also work against you. Always wear gloves to protect your skin from coming in contact with the solution. Don't allow yourself to breathe in any fumes from the drain cleaner, as those can damage your respiratory system as well.

When purchasing drain cleaner, pick the strongest solution that you think will do the job without hurting your actual basin or drain. It should also be one that you are confident in handling safely.

Push a Plunger

You never realize the value of a plunger until you need it. The way a plunger works is by forcing a large quantity of water down the drain. This pushes past the blockage in your clocked sink drain or plugged kitchen drain, leaving the drainage flow free to resume.

What some people don't know is that you don't have to buy a toilet-sized plunger for the issue. You can definitely purchase smaller-sized models that would be more apt for a kitchen sink or basin drain.

Snake Your Clogged Drain

If both a plunger and drain cleaning solution fails to solve the issue, then consider snaking your drain. A drain snake is a unique tool that can extend far into your drain. It has little teeth on its edges. This allows it to rake against the sides of the drain and collect any dirt, grime, or hair that may be obstructing drainage flow, solving your issue.

Call in a Drain Cleaning Service

If you really can't get the job done and are finding yourself unable to get your drains flowing again, then consider calling in a professional drain cleaning service to take care of the issue for you.

Some clogged drains may be due to things that are out of your control, such as very significant obstruction deep in your pipes or an issue that spreads across several houses. For these cases, there is nothing to do but call in the professionals for help.

Defeat Clogged Drains

There you have it — now that you know how to deal with a clogged drain. All that remains is for you is to choose your preferred weapon (drain cleaner, a plunger, or a drain snake) and get to work!
