Not So Speechless Sunday: Grapevines & Roses

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

Pictured above is a small row of grape vines with a large bush of roses planted next to it. If you visit the wine country in California or world wide, you will notice hedges of roses are blooming on the perimeter of the vineyards. Both grapevines and roses thrive in the same type of soil and sunlight exposure.  Roses are the early warning system of potential disease that may endanger the vines.

"Every rose that is sweet-scented within, That rose is telling of the secrets of the Universal."

~ Rumi

"A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world."

~ Leo Buscaglia

"The rose is without 'why'; it blooms simply because it blooms. It pays no attention to itself, nor does it ask whether anyone sees it."

~ Angelus Silesius

Wishing you all delightful Sunday!

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel,

I did not know that roses and grapes can share the same kind of soil.  Thank you for helping me keep up to date with additional knowledge.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I learned something new today.  I have always seen roses near vineyards but never gave it a thought.  Now I know the rest of the story as James Dray would say!

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® when we lived in Napa, we really loved events where you can walk with the vineyard manager and understand their jobs.  In one vineyard everything is computerized as far as feeding, watering and other underground jobs.  When the roses start getting mildew for instance...the least little bit (which the vineyard manager spots (they are there on a daily basis), they can release the non- harmful to us or the environment substance to the grapes underground and the same for the roses.

I didn't know that about the roses.  We have a grape vine but no rose bush.  The Japanese beetles love the grape vine though.

I had no idea that roses can be a harbinger of disease; I often see them planted at the ends of rows of vines; know I know why.
