Police Request Registration of Security Cameras in Gaithersburg MD

This is a Gaithersburg Police Department notification.

We are committed to our partnership with business owners and residents. Many business owners and residents currently operate surveillance systems at their businesses and/or homes. As crimes occur nearby, you may not always be aware that your system may have captured information that could help solve the crime.

We are asking both residents and businesses around the city to voluntarily register your privately owned surveillance camera systems. As officers respond to criminal incidents within your community, officers may be able to use the information or footage gathered from the security cameras to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of those involved. The Gaithersburg Police Department does not monitor or control any registered cameras.

Good morning, Roy Kelley that's a good policy established by your local police.... every police dept. should follow suit.

At least it's a voluntary registration, Roy. Otherwise, I'd be thinking you are living in a police state.

I like that it is a voluntary program.  But, think it may do a lot to solve crime.  Recently, in my community, there was a blatant hit and run, which was caught on home surveillance. The images provided the license plate number of the pickup truck that was involved.
