I cry for future generations...

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

On the phone with a medical professional today, giving her my sister's email.  I said "It's a long one, okay... are you ready?"   She said she was... in the middle of this long string of characters, I told her, included a hyphen.   So, i explained similar to "Alans sister at Jameson hyphen sothebys dot com".... or something like that.  She asked me to repeat it, slowly.... I did... and then she repeated it back to me.

She sent the email out to me and both of my sisters... and when I received it I noticed that my sister's email read Alanssister@Jameson_sothebys.com   the hyphen had been converted to an 'underline'.  I called her and let her know that she had my sister's email incorrect, but don't worry... I'll forward it to her.  You used an underline instead of a hyphen.

She asked "what's a hyphen"?

I'm sure she could hear the surprised pause on my end of the phone... I said "It's a short dash".  "Oh... I didn't realize that's called a hyphen... I thought the underline might be it."

Jaw, meet floor.  I suddenly have a headache.

Hi Alan May,

They say that you can't fix stupid!  A medical professional at that.  I wonder how she got through school.

I'm not surprised. I cry for future generations every time I go to a grocery store and I don't go to the self-check register. I have yet to find one young cashier know what parsley, green beans, celery, or cilantro is.

As for punctuations, I doubt they know what quotation marks or parenthesis is either. I also doubt they could give out the right amount of change if the register didn't tell them.

Good evening Alan May ,

I had to laugh and now I've almost got a headache just thinking about this medical professional. You are right I don't think there are enough summers left to sit through summer classes from Marte Cliff

Many skills and things we thought were common everyday knowledge have changed. Map reading is one. Cursive writing another. But--to be fair--students have been learning many other things that we didn't, back in the day. Something has to give, and I guess hyphens is one of them. Deep breath.....

Well that's good and scary. Don't think this young medical professional would be somebody I'd trust.  If that headache persists, don't consult her, please.

Hi Alan,
I cry for the future generations for many reasons, most importantly their lack of understanding of history and world events.

I worry about my grandkids a lot.  I think a lot of blame we wish to push onto millennials, etc., has to do with our older generations pretty much ravaging the system as it was, and then expecting the younger generations to man up and navigate it!

As for that person you were dealing with who couldn't get your email addresses right, and didn't know what a hyphen was, I think they need to find someone else to fill her position!
