iz you shootin' yerself in the foot?

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

The question was recently asked whether you should bring your political slant (and let's admit, shall we, that everyone has one) to your Facebook posts, knowing in fairly strong certainty, that anyone reading your posts can easily figure out that you are a real estate practitioner... and your opinion may be different or clash with theirs, thereby potentially costing you business?  (phew, hold on a second... I need to catch my breath after that sentence).

I think we've all been guilty of displaying our political bias in one way or another online.  And it only takes a few clicks to go from your personal Facebook comment, to your Facebook business page... or perhaps a brief google search will bring you to your agency's page.

I live in a predominantly blue area... and I've been guilty of publishing my mostly 'blue-ish' agenda online.  I try to be reasonable, logical and even-handed... but c'mon... sometimes it's difficult. I mean who are these bone-headed, neanderthal misanthropes who pretend to have a brain in their... uh... (ahem)... sorry... let's see ... where was I?

I am aware that my comments may lead to someone opting to ... let's see how shall I put this... 'work with someone other than myself'... and I'm okay with that.

Are y'all?

@Alan May I'm not only OK with it, I prefer it. I don't want to give my business to people/companies who aren't in alignment with my values. Conversely, I have provided my services to people whose values aren't in alignment with my values, but I admit it's been more difficult for me to do so - more cramming my fist in my mouth than I like. So easier for everyone if people in need of services/goods/business of any kind find providers with whom they are most comfortable. Lauren

Good afternoon Alan May ,

I stay away from politics and religious discussions and find it works best for me and my business. I speed by the rants and raves and don't spend any time reading them but often wonder if they ranters realize how they sound. Many consumers want a professional to be their advocate and don't want to be involved in their disputes. Just me....I feel anyone can be themselves and if they are comfortable in their own skin..good for them! I know I'm okay with me.

I try not to get involved in commenting on political posts, I might like a post though. Frankly, I want people who use me to be attracted to me, so if our political opinions are what drives us apart so be it. I find the divisiveness of our political climate very sad, as I don't think either side is putting the country or it's people first, but working for their own agendas and greed for power.

Someone recently sent me an email via 23and Me, saying I had 23% more neanderthal genes than the average bear on the site.  Lol.

I never engage in political banter... in fact, I'm really apolitical.  I firmly believe that rarely does anyone's opinion change another.  I think people's actions speak louder than words.
