There are so many fun things to do in Central Oregon it makes it an excellent place to live.  Besides the ATV, Dirt Biking, Horse Back Riding, Skiing(snow and water), Canoeing, Boating, Whitewater, Cycling & Cyclocrossing,  Hiking,
Climbing, Hunting,  Float Tubing, Natural Museums, Lava Caves, Rentals(Bicycles, Most Floatation devices, Boats, Paddle Boats, Canoes, Party Barges), Roller Blades, & I saved the best for last....FISHINGFishing at Crane PrairieHere is one of the Bass Brent Fisher & his wife Theresa catch every year out of Crane Prairie.  It is also a great place to catch a record Rainbow trout.  I will show you more pictures of fish from the Lakes here, but first lets go over all the lakes in the area.  We will start with Walton Lake and work our way back.  All these lakes have great fishing but don't forget to read your synopsis because the rules for fishing change evey year.  Ok just a rundown of lakes...Walton, Odell, Crescent, Davis, Sparks, North Twin, South Twin, Wickiup, Crane Prairie, East Lake, & Paulina.  All within an hours drive from La Pine.  Now that's alot of choices...There are alot more but they are outside my hour radius. Let's not forget all the river and stream fishing.....  Brent & Theresa's run-down on whats, what and what to catch where....Crane Prairie is known for Large Mouth Bass & Rainbow Trout.  Davis is Fly Fishing ONLY, known for great pan sized Rainbow Trout.  Sparks is Fly Fishing Only and a great recreation lake people love to sail boat and wind surf here.  Walton is known for great fishing and a great place to take your family you can fish in a boat or off the bank and still catch fish mostly Rainbow Trout & Kokanee.  Odell & Crescent Lakes are very cold they are fed every year by snow run off.  The fishing here is great but the best luck comes from trolling here.  Some use down riggers to get the big 'ole Mackinaw they have hanging out towards the bottom of the deep lakes.  There are also an abundance of Rainbow Trout & Kokanee.  At East Lake & Paulina they have caught record breaking Brown Trout & Rainbow Trout..if you are trolling there are also alot of Kokanee to be had. North and South Twin are ideal to take kids of any age.  You can catch big Rainbow Trout right off the bank.  The best part of these two lakes is the fun family friendly atmosphere they have there, also a great place to take the kids swimming on those hot summer days.  Wickiup...again I save the best for last, Wickiup is a big lake with lots of arms.  This gives you several places to choose from to find where the fish are biting. Wickiup is known for  Large Mouth Bass, German Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, & Kokanee.  In this lake you can catch your limit in Kokanee, catch Large Mouth Bass up to 14 lbs, catch Brown Trout big enough to get your picture with it up at the lodges along with Rainbow Trout as big as those Brown Trout.  Having your picture taken with your big catch and hung in the lodges for everyone to gasp at and admire is like a badge of honor among fisherman and fisherwomen. Here is a great example of a big Wickiup Brown Trout Theresa caught in the fall of 2007.  This was a 14 lb. Brown Trout Theresa named Edgar.  Just so everyone knows Edgar is still out there...Theresa put him on a metal stringer attached to the boat and by the time they got to shore and pulled up the stringer it was a bent mess and Edgar had broke the METAL STRINGER and got away.  She was pleased to get the picture so the story about the one that got away was not just a story but had some proof to back it up...lol  We have all heard stories about the one that got away....now it's your turn to go enjoy the fun in the sun and catch a prize winning Edgar.
