This is such a good post.  I am sharing for others to see.

We all make choices about what we'll do for ourselves and what we're more than happy to hand off to someone else.

Some ALWAYS blog elsewhere, then come to the Rain to repost.  Worst case, if ActiveRain ever went POOF...or happened to lose an entire month's worth of activity...they're not really any the worse for wear.

Me personally, I don't do what the gurus say to do, post on your main site and then go elsewhere.  ActiveRain has always been my blogging site and I've used it to drive traffic to our Wordpress IDX search pages. It's worked for us, even if it's not the "ideal".

But that practice comes with some risk as we just saw over the weekend.

ANY TIME WE DO NOT OWN AND DIRECTLY CONTROL, THERE IS RISK.

If my blogging is done on a site I don't own, the site can go POOF and there goes all my work and lead generation.

If I use a template site and that site crashes, again, I'm at risk.

If I pay a lead gen company to provide me the bulk of my business, that business can go belly up, change the rules of the game, increase fees 10x, or do any number of things that make the situation less than satisfactory for me.

If I don't own my own brokerage, as an agent I'm subject to rule changes, brand changes, changes in brokerage or any number of other things.  (side note, I'm perfectly fine and happy with our current brokerage and situation, but I know that CAN change).

For literal domains, do you OWN your URL domains, or does someone else?

Basically there are many opportunities to be master of my own domain, or just another worker bee.

Have you assessed the risks of your domain?

Morning Ginger.

Thankfully, I do not post for business, I post for the pure pleasure of it.
