One Person’s Junk is Another’s Treasure

Real Estate Agent with GreatWest Realty DRE# 00827565

Have you ever passed by a pile of junk ready to be discarded, and see possibilities that others likely missed?  I often have!  Because of this, more than once my foot has quickly found the brakes and brought my car to a screeching halt!
For example, I came across these old chimney pipes about to be discarded on a piece of land.  From the first moment I cast my eyes on them, I realized I had found a solution to finding a place to plant herbs in my garden.  I quickly asked for permission to adopt them!
Here’s what those old chimney pipes look like on a previously bare spot at my home.  There’s Sage, Basil, Oregano and Thyme.  I put in small flowering plants to add a little color.

Realtyna Inc - I guess there may be a correlation to seeing value in both arenas.

Michael Jacobs - I think it is good to discard things we don't use.  With me it's a balancing act, between repurposing and becoming a hoarder!

Nina Hollander - I must admit that I'm not as good at repurposing as some are.  But, every once in awhile, my mind goes there!

What a great idea, and I love that you used them as herb growing containers.  I also love the contrast of the black river rock with the terra cotta.  A

Those are gorgeous and I would have been stopping right along with you. Love how you have used them. Often using a creative spirit or eye, one can reuse what others do not value.

Ditto on all the kudos here for such a great use of these. One of main reasons to sale my home was to get away from doing landscaping choirs but after seeing these.............. cheers cvc

Hi Myrl- you have created a work of art!!!  Instead of sitting in a landfill, you've put them to good use, and I love that. A friend saw something on the curb one day and did just as you did. She had her electrician wire it and it became a focal point in her entry.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I like that I can step a few feet out my side-door and pick herbs, rain or shine.

Will Hamm - I remember the excitement I had when I loaded them up in my car and brought them home!  It was kind of like winning a small jackpot!

Carol Williams - I haven't watched Flea Market Flip.  I'll look for it!

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - I think it is a win-win situation when you can utilize something, and at the same time keep it from a land-fill.

JoAnn Moore - I'm glad you liked it!

Curtis Van Carter - I have a "Mow, blow and go" guy that comes once a week.  But, I actually enjoy planting and tending the flower and vegetable beds myself.  When and if I get too old and decrepit to care for them, I will hire that done as well!

Brian England - I really enjoy having and using them this way!

Kathy Streib - I can imagine they would be really nice nearer my entry way!  But, I have a dry creek bed set up there already!  I do need to get an electrician over here to work on my outdoor lighting, however!

You did a great job with upcycling those chimney pipes (confession: I didn't know what they were). I bet they were HEAVY! I've been known to stop my car to rescue items headed to the landfill. I recreate lots of crafty items from other people's unwanted junk.
