Update and Find a Purpose!

By
Home Stager with Dressed for Success

From drab, dreary, cluttered and out of date! - This room lacked a purpose.  It was cluttered and didn't show off the size of the room at all.  This wallpaper mural was out of date and certainly didn't appeal to a wide range of buyers.

To a cheerful little girls room!  A fresh coat of paint, a neutral palette.  Girly, but not themed. - and a welcoming chair that any little girl would love to crawl into with mom or dad and read a book.

Inexpensive tab curtains were purchased and paper flowers were hot glued to the top to give them a designer touch.  The pink chair was brought in from another room.  The Picture Frame and Shelf were picked up at a discount store and were painted a matching green colour.

A buyer can now visualize what this room is intended for, and could update with different accessories for a boy or a girl!

Margaret Ann - The colour is BM - Enchanted (2070-50) - it's a blue purple, leaning more towards the blue family.  So with different furniture and accessories, it could work for a boys room as well.  I found a great bedding set with airplanes and this paint colour works with it as well.

Jackson, Patti - Thank you!

You did a monumental job in transforming that room Alyse!  I agree that the mural had to go! It was one of those wallpaper ones, no?

When I blogged about the house with the 'mural' over the fireplace, I had ambivilant feelings about removing it because it was actually a work of art that was hand painted and the scene was a local one - the harbor and lighthouse in Huntington.  On one hand, I felt that local residents might like to keep it because of the workmanship and specifics of the art; my thought was that it could always be painted over - quite easily and inexpensively because it only covered 1/3 of the wallspace.  That's why I was thinking about going with a nautical theme...our town and village are both coastal locations and boating/sailing is very big in this area.

I certainly felt that each comment was valid and another way to view the situation.

But getting back to your room...I love the tranformation!  Did you do the painting yourself?

Val - I did not paint the walls myself.  I did paint the shelf and the picture frame though! LOL

As for your room - I completely see where you are coming from, and with all of that info, I think if the rest of the room were more contemporary, and fit with the theme, then it may have been pulled off well.  I just didn't see many young buyers falling in love with it, so it would all depend for me on who the house was marketed to.
