When I chose to live in Chesterbrook last year I knew access to Valley Forge Park was a big reason why I chose this location. Easy access from my front door to walk in nature. I literally step out my door and start walking along Valley Creek. Almost every day this walk offers me something wonderful to be grateful for seeing.
Last night, as we were returning, I see something swimming in the creek, then realize it is a beaver. I have never seen a beaver other than at the zoo before and definitely not in this area. It was just swimming up the creek, past a fisherman, and then stopped for a little snack on some grasses by the creek. Made my evening.
Around the next bend were four young deer, who rather than running away stepped closer as if to say hello. I have seen Eagles, mink, foxes, turkey vultures and all the other usual suspects too.
This week I also saw a Blue Heron fishing the creek, watched over by a gaggle of ducks. So majestic to see him fly away when he got a little upset with me for trying to get just a little closer for a better photo.
All this right on my doorstep to enjoy and see and listen to as I walk. I breathe fresh air, see nature changing before my eyes day by day, as plants blossom and bloom then die down. Vally Forge has so much to offer, so many trails and paths. It has taken a battering recently with all the storms, but it will recover. And every day, there is a chance to see something wonderful.
