For Greater Sacramento folks who enjoy life along the American River, a visit to the Effie Yeaw Nature Center adjacent to Carmichael’s Ancil Hoffman Park provides the perfect opportunity.

Admission Free – But a $2.00 per adult and $1.00 per Child Donation is Recommended!

Parking is $5.00 per car.

Effie Yeaw Nature Center consists of 77 acres along the north side of the American River Parkway.  In addition to a museum, the center provides self-guided interpretive trails - an opportunity for those interested in learning about the American River ecosystem.

The Center acts as a nature preserve for deer, fox, coyotes, squirrels, wild turkeys, rabbits, snakes, and a variety of birds. There are rattlesnakes in the area, so it is important to be cautious when you walk the area.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat - This looks like a great way to escape and enjoy the day.  Normally right now it is dead up to Labor Day. But so many people are getting out, and taking rides to Sedona from down south, it is mind-boggling the amount of traffic we are getting.  They can hike longer because the temps are 10 to 15º lower.

Talking about critters. Last night I was awoken to a very strange noise in my back yard. Upon getting up and looking, only when I turned on the outside light did a very cat leap in one bound to the top on my rear yard 6 foot fence. Was a bit too quick but my bet a Bobcat. They do live around here. cheers cvc

Thanks all, for your comments.  I've been busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest.  I may tell you more about it at the first of the week!
