Is The Home For You Or Your Furniture ?

There are times when showing a home, and the buyers are only concerned about their existing furniture being a perfect fit in the new home. They walk through the house with a tape measure and a list of their belonging.

The question' will this fit' is repeated in each room.

Here's something for you to ponder.

You've lived in your home for many years. Furnished just the way you like, the right pieces for all the right spaces. Now it's time to move to a new home. It could be out of state. It could be from the big house to a big condo or townhouse. It could be a condo to a  bigger new home etc.

There is a frenzy' will it fit in my new space,' can't buy that house because our custom furnishing is too bulky, too tall, or won't make it up the stairs.

You are now purchasing a home, not for you, but your headboard, credenza, or antique soda machine.

Maybe you could sell your home furnished. After all, it is perfect. You picked it.

Move on finding the perfect new home and choose the decor perfect for the new residence.

Have you asked?

Would you like to buy my home furnished?

What a convenience. No movers. No packers. No furniture in transit. No selling, no hauling, no waiting for charity pick up.

During this pandemic...reduce contact from the numerous people that are involved with this transition.

For everyone?

Not!

But maybe it's something to consider.

Think about it. Are you buying a home for you and your family, OR are you buying for your furniture.

Hi Margaret,

It's unfortunate, but many people think that they're buying the home for them, only to realize that their furniture won't work out so they opt out of not buying the home.

Isn't a new home, a new chapter in that person's life?  If it doesn't fit, get rid of it and start new memories.

Hello Margaret,  I just sold a new built to a couple that are 64 and stop by yesterday to see how the unpacking is coming and if there is any problem.  She when and said, they did not know the doors were all 32 inches wide and her big desk will not make it in and some day they may need wheelchairs.  I learned something.

Hi Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 I just had flashbacks of buyers from decades ago who had massive pieces of bedroom furniture that required a master bedroom that was 24' x 24' minimally....  sell the furniture and buy new.... new home, new furniture....that's what I did, especially when it's newly built....

Hello Margaret - buyers can have all sorts of "trigger points" when they see the "perfect" home that inspires them to write an offer and to move.  The right location, the right price or maybe just the ideal spot for that heirloom they must find the right "home".

Oh, I hate the idea of buying a house to accommodate furniture that can easily be sold for cash that can be applied to new pieces. A house is the bigger investment and the lifestyle should be the priority.

You have written a post that is hitting me where I'm at right now, Margaret.  However, I'm not moving.  It's just that I have things that aren't adding to my comfort, but they fit in the space I have!  I'm trying to make decisions about what to do about that!

Morning Margaret.

We've came across that, but not often. Most people around here, want their own style, not someones left behind furnishings.

I run into that occasionally on home inspections.  The buyers are more interested in measuring the rooms than what I am finding during the inspection.

I just hand them my tape measure and let them go.
