Who am I if not me?

How can I be a better real estate agent?

Maybe I can be taller?

Popular consensus tells us that the ideal height for men is between 5’10” and 6’0” tall and for women it is between 5’5” and 5’7” tall. Well, if being taller makes you a more preferred salesman, I may be out of luck. Unless men’s platforms come back in fashion.

Maybe I can be a woman?

I fall into the ideal height category for a woman, but would I look good as a woman?

Well we know that there are far more ladies in this industry than men. And we know that ladies dominate the market in sales. But statics do show that men have a slight edge in getting listings in most states (Arizona being one of them).

So maybe I should focus more on getting listings?

What if I was better looking?

A new study shows that the more good looking the real estate agent, the more money they “might” earn you if selling your home. Maybe that’s why photographers earn so much from Realtor head shots.

Not to sound vain, but I have always considered myself semi good looking. So I may have an advantage in this department.

Oh wait, does being short take away from my attractiveness? Never mind.

What if I try being myself?

I know I’ve done this before. People do like me when I’m just being me. So maybe there is something to this.

Let’s see what the benefits are to being myself.

1. I’ll be happier.

I like being happy so this makes me happy.

2. I’ll attract the right friends.

There’s nothing wrong with that, I can’t stand fake friendships. How about you?

3. I won’t have anything to prove.

They say if you have to prove your honesty, chances are you’ve already lost the battle. We all know that’s not good in the real estate world.

4. Nobody can hold anything against me.

Being yourself means you speak the truth, you have nothing to hide, you keep things real. I’m pretty sure most people are ok with that.

5. My confidence will show.

Anyone who loves who they are, has an unstoppable amount of self confidence. This alone should be enough to want to be myself.

6. I can inspire others.

Being comfortable with who you are reflects confidence. This can change somebody’s life just by showing them it’s ok to be honest and it’s ok to follow your heart. Be an inspiration to the people around you. Let’s make honesty go viral.

7. I’ll gain a higher level of respect.

Who can’t see through phony people? Who likes you when you’re not being genuine? If they do, they’re just looking to take advantage of you, right? So be myself, be confident, and watch how others warm to me and respect me for who I am. I like that, I like that a lot.

8. I’ll make better decisions.

When you know who you are, you make decisions based on being yourself, not someone you know nothing about. Good, sound decisions always come from what’s deep inside you, so doesn’t make sense that the person inside you is yourself?

9. I won’t feel like a fraud.

When you are fake, people will see that you are fake, and they will treat you like a fake. This will make you feel like a fraud and nobody likes to feel that way.

10. People are more likely to trust me.

DING! DING! DING! Trust! Isn’t that what it’s all about? Yes! The answer is most definitely Yes. Without trust you have nothing in this business. No happiness, no confidence, no respect, no clients and above all No Money!

Ok, no more yelling:)

I know what I need to do.

Just be me.

I can do this.

LOL - This is a great and meaningful post, Vinicio. Folks sometimes fear that being oneself is not suficient. But authenticity is one of the greatest personality assets of all.

What a fantastic post! Yes, definitely be yourself, that's the only person you can be...

And by the way, I didn't realize I was short until I saw the average height of ladies starts at 5'5".

I think being yourself is the best bet.  I am pretty sure that I have gained more business in real estate from sharing about my personal life than I have from sharing about real estate.

Loved your creative post, Vinicio. I think if you aren't yourself you are bound to be unhappy at some level, and people will know since you are not being genuine. That's not to say there aren't things we can improve about who we are but pretending to be something we are not takes alot of negative energy.

It takes a character to be a character and IMO, you can train to be almost any character you want to be. It's showtime every time you walk out of your confines.

Did that take any courage to write about yourself?  You did a lovely job of filling out a resume.  And that's what Realtors do on a daily basis.  Real estate is 75% marketing (ourselves) and 25% about doing a good job and helping people.  Keep up the good work!!!

BTW, you could consider making this post public :-0

This blog gave me a few chuckles!  I learned a long time ago to -- be myself when selling and promoting my services.  Feels too fake if I try to do anything else.
