According to an article in NY Times, Time Warner is starting a trial where customers will pick a plan (like cell phone plans) and will be charged a surcharge should they exceed their bandwidth limit. Comcast plans to "manage" traffic by slowing the speed of the heaviest users - the so-called bandwidth hogs at peak times. AT&T is planning on pricing based on data volume. This is nuts! My computer is on way more than my TV. Will this mean we will have to cut back on blogging or searching the MLS? Oh no!

I would like to think that this was precipitated by oversized and over sent junk mailings but I'm not so sure. It does have the odor of another commercial endeavor to capitalize on broadening horizons of the next frontier. Let's hope this doesn't become the next indulgence parallel to oil price gouging.

This is very interesting. Years ago even my old dial up account had bandwidth limits so even though I hate the idea of limiting bandwidth...it is not a big surprise. Imagine the people who watch videos how much bandwidth they are using. Even my smaller sized YouTube video uploads can be 100 meg to nearly a gig each just to post them online.
