A video celebrating the history of the Labor Day Parade will be available on the city's Special Events Facebook page and YouTube channel on Sept. 7.

The celebration will also include a "Salute to Everyday Working Heroes." Kids participating in the city's FunZone summer camps have been recording videos to thank health care workers, grocery store clerks, and the many others working during the pandemic. Their messages can be found throughout Labor Day weekend on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

This is the second time in 82 years that there hasn't been a Labor Day Parade in Gaithersburg. The last time this happened was during World War II.

I'm not looking forward to this year's holiday season.  Thanksgiving at my home has always been a special day.  I have no idea how to observe it this year!  Ditto for Christmas!

Virtual Salute Replaces Labor Day Paradelabor
Due to the ongoing public health crisis, both the Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade and Oktoberfest are cancelled. Virtual celebrations will replace the in-person events, including a retrospective video celebrating the history of the Parade that will be available on the Special Events Facebook page and on the City's YouTube channel on September 7. To pay tribute to the accomplishments and contributions of American workers, Gaithersburg FunZone participants will share "Salute to Everyday Working Heroes" messages throughout Labor Day weekend on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.
