I can't believe my eyes. On the front page of Thursday's Augusta Chronicle was a article That had Realtors buzzing . Augusta is the most affordable metro housing market in the United States. This according to Bizjournals, the online division of American city Business Journals based in Charlotte NC.
How did they figure this great mystery? They analyzed income and housing costs for 95 metro areas with populations of 500,000 or more. Augusta-Richmond county metro area is made up of Aiken,Burke,Columbia,Edgefield,Mcduffie and Richmond counties. Bizjournals looked at the housing costs for our Metro area and found it consumes only 17.4% of the monthly household income, compared to 27% nationally.
I have felt this way for years, now there is a study to support our great area. Augusta has always had great home prices. Families moving to the Augusta area would always rave about how much home they were getting compared to their last home. Augusta has seen a nice steady rise in prices over the years. We have not had the growth as some of the markets, in Florida or California but we continue to have a good market today compared to those areas which are in a down market. I believe Augusta's real estate market is a great steady investment.
Augusta real estate will continue to be strong in the future. The economy looks good. We have people moving here from all over this great country everyday. The Medical College of Georgia and Fort Gordon Army Base continue to bring medical & military familes to Augusta. The Columbia county school system is one of the best in the state. The Richmond county & surrounding areas school systems are also looking at ways to provide the best education for our children.
I am proud to make Augusta my home, and look forward to continued growth for our area. Let me know what you think, compare your area to Augusta
