No water, now what?

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 New Millennium

We woke up this morning to find out we have no water.  There have been 2 major water main breaks in Montgomery County, one on Georgia Ave and one on Muncaster Mill Road.  Conveniently I live in between both.

All government offices in the affected areas (Olney, Glenmont, Wheaton, Burtonsville, Gaithersburg, Germantown) are closed.  All Montgomery County summer camps are also closed today.

Water boiling rules are in effect.  Boil water before drinking, food preparation, ice making, brushing teeth, washing dishes, etc.

The low water pressure increases the risk of contamination.

In addition the following things are not allowed:

  • Watering lawn
  • Dishwashing
  • Laundry
  • Toilet flushing
  • Filling swimming pools

All these restrictions are designed to keep water pressure as high as possible in case of fire.

Be extra careful for the next couple days.  Try to prevent fires and conserve water as much as possible!!  Good luck getting through today.

Stacey Anne- That seems strange to have two water breaks at the same time. I hope your water comes on soon.

Stacey-Anne, Thanks for heads up. I live on the other side of Montgomery County and I guess we're lucky to escape this calamity this time around. I hope the situation is finally under control.

I'm sorry to hear about your water.  It's really got to be tough living without it, even for a short time.  I hope  you get it back soon!  :)

Hi Stacey Ann...

We have been under water restriction in North Georgia for over a year, because we haven't had enough rain. And less that 800 miles from us it's flooding! Hopefully your mains will be repaired soon.

That's awful, Stacey.  How long do you have to do that?

Hi All - The update is we have water again.  Of course they want us to boil all water for several days but at least we can shower!

When I lived up in the Northesat, I can't remember it ever happening.  In SW FL, it happens probably at least once or twice a year somewhere in my area - that is from Tampa to Naples - as there always seems to be something, main break, construction, weather, something.  Good luck!
