Looking for Free activities for kids to do all year round?
Entertaining kids can be expensive and stressful, especially if you are on a budget!
But you will be surprised... most of the time, what children need is NOT us spending money on things and places to go. Instead, they need our undivided attention.
Planning ahead on what you are going to do with them is critical.
... which is why I have compiled the most comprehensive list of 110 FREE Activities with Kids, so you never run out of ideas at your fingertips.
Here are 5 of my personal favourite FREE activities for kids.
1. Family bike rides
This is one of our favourite activities during the lockdown because we can explore the city we live while being active. Occasionally we pack some snacks so we can stop to have a break and enjoy the view.
For those of you with younger children, I recommend the Weeride safe child front seat. Or if they are older but not quite confident riding, the Weeride Copilot Tagalong is a great alternative.
I know you may have to spend money on biking gear for this activity, however, you can save a lot of money, if not making some profit on this.
Kids biking gear is one of those items that you go through them quickly and is always in high demand. We always buy our girls' bikes at all stages 2nd hand. When we sell them on eBay, they are typically sold the same amount that we purchase. In some cases, we even sold at a higher price than we bought as it was in high demand.
2. Laser grid
This is a great rainy day activity. All you need is some yarn (preferably red to make it look like a laser, otherwise any colour would do) and masking tape. Tape them across the hallway as an obstacle course for kids to get through from one end to the other.
3. Shoebox dollhouse making
Another indoor creative crafty activity is to make a dollhouse using shoeboxes. You will need 1 or multiple shoe boxes, and some wrapping paper. Depend on the time you have, you can start with a single room using 1 shoebox (like we did here), and adding more rooms (shoeboxes) in the future. Combining all the rooms together to make it a house.
4. Garden Olympic Game
Sports day is one of my favourite events to attend in my children's school, but you can set up your own family Olympic game in your back garden, and it cost NOTHING.
Each member of the family can pick a sporting event of their choice. Running, hopping, egg on a spoon, cartwheels, anything goes. The only rule is that every member should give a go, no matter the outcome.
It was rather entertaining to watch my 6ft 5 husband attempting the cartwheel =P
5. Make a vision board
The last creative and budget-friendly activity to do with kids is making a vision board. I know I'm sneaking some education here, but hey, if I can kill two birds with one stone, why not?
Making a vision board is a great way to teach children the power of planning while incorporated fun crafting skills. It doesn't have to be monumental. Instead, it can be as simple as making a vision board of how you would like to spend your summer holiday, or how you would like your next school term to go.
Here's a summer vision board we did last year.
