On Tuesday, September 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., we invite you to meet virtually with members from the SR 400 Express Lanes project team for a live presentation, followed by opportunity to ask questions. A link to access the virtual meeting and dial-in information will be posted on the online virtual meeting platform the day of the event: https://0001757-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/.

The SR 400 Express Lanes is one of the Major Mobility Investment Program projects to improve mobility along this vital north-south transportation corridor. The project will be part of the larger Georgia Express Lanes network, designed to provide a connected transportation system with reliable trip times for motorists.

The project focuses on adding two, buffer-separated express lanes in each direction between the North Springs MARTA Station and McGinnis Ferry Road. Additionally, one, buffer-separated express lane will be constructed in each direction from McGinnis Ferry Road to McFarland Parkway.

In consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting social distancing measures in place, the project team recently released an updated visualization video that provides an aerial perspective of the SR 400 Express Lanes project. The below visualization incorporates changes to the project since the Public Information Open Houses (PIOH) in 2019. To view the current concept design, visit the Document Library and select Virtual Information Meeting/PHOH materials.

Current Status

Property owners within the project corridor may see Georgia DOT contractors performing routine vegetation control and lawn maintenance on a regular basis in some areas where early property acquisitions have taken place. Maintenance activities occur between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

A constructability study was done by our consultant partners in early 2019 and we found that with the addition of bus rapid transit (BRT), opening to traffic on the original timeline (2024) wasn’t feasible. We adjusted the schedule in June 2019 to reflect an open to traffic date of 2026. With this update, project letting shifted a couple of months; however, we are still on track to meet our INFRA grant obligation deadlines.

Project Public Participation

Virtual Information Meeting/Public Hearing Open House

The SR 400 Express Lanes project team is currently hosting a virtual information meeting for the project. In keeping with Governor Kemp’s directive to keep essential state government agencies functioning as Georgia combats the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia DOT has placed updated project information on an online platform in compliance with social distancing guidelines to avoid large gatherings. The online platform and interactive virtual meeting room houses project information that you would find at an in-person Public Hearing Open House (PHOH) for SR 400 Express Lanes. Click the following link to access the online virtual meeting platform: https://0001757-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/.

Please be aware that this project is moving rapidly forward and it is NOT the current construction you see each day on GA400 heading into or out of Atlanta and The Perimeter Business District.

The purpose of the virtual information meeting is to showcase project information that has been updated or changed since the Public Information Open House (PIOH) series hosted in early 2019, including review of the draft Environmental Assessment and current concept design. We ask you to submit public comment following your review of the updated project information. Comments must be submitted by Tuesday, September 22, 2020.

Due to the virtual format, you can request a formal in-person Public Hearing Open House (PHOH) by attending a drive-through event that complies with CDC recommended guidelines for social distancing and the governor’s executive order. All the materials that will be presented at the in-person event can be found on the online virtual meeting platform and the project website’s Document Library. The PHOH would be by appointment only and is currently scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2020, from 5-6 p.m., 6-7 p.m., or 7-8 p.m. at the District 7 office located at 5025 New Peachtree Road Chamblee, GA 30341. To make an appointment to reserve your space, please call 404-556-9816 (voicemail) by September 2, 2020.
