There Is a Hunger for Spontaneous Face to Face Conversations!

By

Whenever we are out and about, we have noticed that face to face conversations abound.  There is a hunger for spontaneous face to face time.

Last Thursday, as we were walking back to our car from the Carpinteria Farmers Market, we met a young couple with a dog (pictured above) that resembles Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD pup, Finnegan.

His name is Kai-Lo, (kai means ocean in the Hawaiian language).  Kai was very delighted with our pats and our telling him, what a wonderful dog he is.  We spent over 15 minutes talking dogs, breeders, oceans, Hawaii, etc..We all left smiling.

Yesterday, we spent over a half hour at Renegade Wines, having the owners pick out wines for us.  We shared diferent traveling experiences, best olive oils, and restaurants.  We also learned that Tibet (now part of China) is growing grapes in the mountains, which are tended by monks.

We have experienced the same effect talking to our neighbors.  We all seem to take more time sharing, laughing, and smiling with our exposed cheeks and eyes.  It is a welcome human to human experience!

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD we are enjoy. going out for dinner, because everyone talks to each other regardless what table you are at.  We met a show Afghan that was so gorgeous!  He has become a therapy dog when he retired, and his job is on hold!  In order to keep him feeling useful, the owner is encouraging people to pet him, so he can spread the love.   A

That's so sad. I think therapy dogs would be needed now more than ever. People in nursing homes who aren't being allowed visits from family are suffering greatly.

Good afternoon Ron and Alexandra Seigel,

You are right people are longing for face to face conversations and are taking time to stop, talk and engage with those they see out.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel , It's a new world we live in.   It's amazing how animals bond with people and the comfort and companionship they provide.  We have all been in too long, but we have to do what we have to do.  Hopefully, this will pass.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel , I agree with the longing for human to human conversation. Wineries are fun places to visit, and there are always interesting stories to hear there - we love to visit them, too.

Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR I think that many of us (previously) would have been way too busy to stop and engage, now we do not take it for granted.  I see it as a positive. A

Elyse Berman, PA Furry creatures are good bonders, and I have all kinds of friends who do not live with us.  We both enjoy conversing with all types of people because the sound of a human voice is so special and has become more so these days. A

I totally agree. People just want to connect. I'm also amazed at how much one can share with just the eyes.

Now that the CDC has released the true numbers on the Covid virus, the mask requirements are no longer justified.  I look forward to shaking hands, hugging friends, and having face to face conversations!

So true!  We are all starved for face to face communication, and pleasant chatting for sure. It's easier to leave the news OFF and turn on some background music rather than listen to the negativity these days.  Thanks for this very positive post!

I feel so fortunate to live where COVID has not been prevalent. We're careful to sanitize our hands after going in stores, but aside from that, life has not changed much for us.

I think most people are generally pretty sociable, and enjoy interactions with others. It's certainly been more challenging to have pleasant interactions with having to wear masks and to limit contact due to Covid, and not being able to see a full smile...even when you can tell it's there...has taken some getting used to.

I especially like to try and engage the 'essential ' workers--those who work in grocery stores, public transporation.  I also meet a friend/client in the park for socially distant chat at least once a week--it's very refreshing and much needed. Always something to talk about!!

Here people are taking masks and social distancing pretty seriously.  Still, we are relishing the face to face contacts that we are having.  A friend and I are planning a get together with a cellist down the street to do a front porch chamber music concert.  Since one cannot play a flute wearing a mask, I'll have to just risk it!
