Feeling blue on a beautiful morning in Naperville...

Good morning!!

I woke up on this cool and sunny Friday morning feeling down…

Perhaps it was the series of bad dreams I had throughout the night, but I think it was something more…

I find myself with a heavy heart of late…

Some of it I can attribute to a family issue I have been working through, but there is something more for sure…

I find myself mentally immersed in the issues facing the world. And I find no joy in these issues enveloping my mind day after day after day…

What to do?

Turn off the news? Turn off Facebook? Both good ideas, but I want more…

I find myself existing. Waiting. Going through the motions…

My business is good. My relationship with Ann Marie is better than it has ever been. The sun is shining, and fall, my favorite season, is fast approaching…

So there are certainly blessings. I need to get my focus back on those blessings and off of the relentless negativity that is portrayed on the TV...

But the negativity isn’t only on TV. It is everywhere…

In my conversations with friends. With family. The conversations in my head. Everywhere I go, there are reminders…

This needs to change. But how?

The friendly faces I used to enjoy as I went through my day are now covered with masks. Eyes averted. And yes, properly social distanced…

I thrive off of human contact and interaction. Seems engaging with others is now frowned upon, on such a scale I never thought possible…

We turn on the TV, and there is a running death toll on the screen...

Are we celebrating these deaths? Trying to stop them? Or is this some grand movement made to gather ratings or for some political agenda?

What seems like endless rioting and finger pointing is everywhere. Again sad…

My children no longer go to school. Some are being home schooled. Some are going through e-learning and the issues that come with it…

What needs to be done? How can we make this stop? Or does it all need to run the course?

I find myself hoping this morning that what I am feeling is just one more nightmare that came at me during the night…

But when am I going to wake up from this dream? Shake a hand? Give a hug? Share a smile with a stranger?

Hopefully very soon, because I don’t like how I feel…

A great way to wake up on a Friday morning,  .  NAWT!!!    So sorry to hear about the "heavy heart", and I certainly understand... the nonsense we deal with since Feb., is just beyond crazy and annoying.  I had to take off about 4 months, starting in April ... I had enough negativity in all aspects of Business and  life in general.  You are heading in the right direction... find the positive folks, those that build you up, create conversations of family.... Best wishes thru this Labor Day weekend.

Hello Ken - regardless of what is happening in the world(and yes, there is much of it occurring), we can focus on the negative or see the possibilities for positive.  It's definitely not easy.  Rarely is anything worthwhile so simple but "answers" can often be found in the simplest of activities.  Be well.  Nice to "see" you back here posting.

Ken Tracy I get it. Seems like the whole world is being turned upside down. Then I realize how absolutely lucky I am to enjoy going to work each day and having a healthy family. Surround yourself with positive people and you will become more positive too! Have an exceptional day!

Ken- I am very sorry that you are going through this, and by going through, I mean that you will get through this. Dan Hopper and Michael Jacobs gave excellent advice.

I am by nature a happy and upbeat person and my choice is to stay that way as much as I can. I limit my time on Facebook and my time watching the news.

Be around positive people! Get out as much as you can given the limits and be around people who are smiling underneath their masks.

It's nearly impossible not to get the blues if you are bombarded with the news or negativity from social media.  I also limit my news and social media time. Focusing on what we can do and what is wonderful around us really does help.

Ken I hear you.  How you feel is a choice.  Chose your thoughts carefully. Toss out the ones that cause you to feel blue.  And then choose again. It takes practice but I know you'll get to the point when you actively chose - good feeling thoughts 99.9% of the time. You will.
