Water in your cellphone? No problem, just pass the rice?

By

I haven't dropped my cellphone in the bathtub lately, but next time I do, I will try Popular Mechanics remedy....Immediately cut the power and no matter how tempting, do not try to power up to see if it works! This is what will fry your phone.  Remove the battery and use compressed or cool air to remove excess water. Never use a hair dryer! (this next step is my favorite) Bury the phone and battery in a bowl of uncooked rice overnite.  There you have it - recipe for success!

Hi,

A few years ago I jumped in a pool with my cell phone in my pocket.  I immediately disconnected the  battery and gently heated the phone (In a frying pan) just so it was hot enough that I could still touch it.

I did that 2 -3 times and then left it overnight.  I used it for 2 years after that.

All the best!

There are times you just do not know electrionics. FM radio was nicknames Fxxking magic for a reason and rice just shows why It was nicked named. Thanks for helpting others. I to have done similar. I had my beeper on my swimiming suit and I jumped into a pool. I took the battery out sat in the sun for 6 hours and turned it back on. It worked for another 3 years then i quit the company and it was still working.

I've heard of the same trick for getting digital cameras to work that have been in the rain.
