A great post by another pet lover Nina Hollander .  Nina has it really broken down for both cats and dogs.

Although Nina is in Charlotte, NC, the same holds true for Boca Raton and the surrounding areas.  Pets are family!  You prepare for your family; please prepare for your pets.

Not a sermon.  Just a share.

Don't Forget Your Pets During National Preparedness Month In September

Do you have a plan in place to keep your pets disaster-ready? With so many American households with dogs and cats in the home, it's  important to have a pet plan and disaster kit to protect and care for them during a disaster. If you're prepared in advance there will be no reason to panic when/if a disaster strikes. As part of September's National Preparedness Month, don't forget about your four-legged family members.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have provided comprehensive  pet cat and pet dog disaster kit checklists (below). If you're at risk of evacuation from your home, keep the following in mind:

  1. Plan for your pets before it's too late in a disasterTake your pets with you... DO NOT leave them behind.  Transport them in a crate and keep a leash near the crate for easy access. Use a harness secured with a strap the clicks into a seatbelt if you can't crate your pet. Be sure that collars and crates are securely fastened.

  2. Hotels, motels and boarding facilities that welcome pets tend to fill up quickly.  Reserve early at places with a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you're planning on going to a local evacuation center, find out in advance if they accept pets. Many evacuation centers allow only service animals. Know in advance where you will take your pet. In the corona virus environment,  there may be fewer facilities availabe... be sure to know what's happening in your area.

  3. Bring out your pets’ crates, place bedding in them and let your pets get used to seeing the crates to avoid last minute panic (especially important for cats). Practice evacuating or sheltering in place with your pet to familiarize your pet with the process, so if/when the time comes to evacuate, it won’t frighten them as much.

  4.  CDC suggests implementing a buddy system with friends, family, neighbors in the event you’re not home when disaster strikes. Have a trusted person you can call to check on pets and evacuate them if necessary. Having a kit ready to go will make it easier for them if you aren’t there.

Elyse immediately ‘got’ us

We found Elyse on-line after working with another realtor that was not helping us find what we wanted. Elyse immediately ‘got’ us and showed us the right properties while providing encyclopedic knowledge of neighborhoods, dog restrictions, lifestyle options and benefits/trade offs between one house/neighborhood and the other. Elyse consistently provided important information at every stage of our process. As out-of-towners this was essential to our making the right decision. We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to Elyse for everything she’s done. Elyse is a rare combination of being a true subject matter expert and, more importantly, a genuinely caring person who looks after her people.

Good one to share. Right now, we are doing our best to protect lil' Finnegan with our hazardous air. He is so frustrated - why aren't we going outside to play?  We take him for potty breaks, and he sits down, refusing to move. We have to bribe him back in the house quickly with a tasty treat.
