New Flames Can't Hold a Candle to YOU! Don't Forget Old Agent Friends!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Mike McCann - Broker, Mach1 Realty Farmland Broker-Auctioneer Serving Rural Nebraska

Are You Moving On...Maybe to a new agency...or new city...or different career?

Don't forget those who you enjoyed working with or being around in the past!

While there are many reasons to stay in touch with old agents or clients that have passed through your life...or former co-workers...or friends...or even family...

...this blog is unselfishly reminding you that There is Gold in them there Folks!!

In the summer of 2003 my wife and I (she will say only me) made the difficult decision to move back closer to our roots in central Nebraska after a very successful 11+year run selling real estate for Re/Max Real Estate Group. We had a beautiful home with incredible views in the Springs...but In December of 2003 as our home we currently are living in was being finished...we said 5912 Mapleton Mike McCann home backyard view 2003goodbye to hundreds, if not thousands of Colorado Springs friends, clients, agents, brokers, former co-workers, business contacts, and such.

All of our family blood relation...was in Nebraska...and the decision was made to get back around them so our kids were not alone when they were adults.  That was a good decision

However, we hated leaving the Springs, and still think about it almost daily. Great people and great views of Pikes Peak! We left those we felt were family behind...

Fast forward now to current events....

A really cool thing happened the other day...about 2 weeks ago I was contacted by a Broker I had never met about his family member who was moving here.

He had asked a real estate forum he chats with in the Springs if they knew of a great agent in Kearney.  Carey Goldberg, a longtime agent in the Springs, recommended me.  While I haven't seen Carey in almost 17 years...we have stayed in touch via friends on FB...https://www.facebook.com/careyteam/

Sidenote: A few years back, Mimi Foster sold a townhome for a friend of mine in Colorado Springs. https://activerain.com/profile/mimifoster Mimi and I stay in touch on many media platforms.

And now I have a new agent, https://business.facebook.com/JoshKimmelRealtor/ in my referral base thanks to his reaching out to me to represent a family member off of Carey's suggestion.

I could go on with more examples but you get the drift.

New flames ...old flames.  Every agent in the business that has relocated should be contacting every agent and former contact from where they relocated from...because There is Gold in them there Folks!

Until Next time...get a hold of those old contacts...it just might pay off handsomely!

Good points, Mike!  There are a lot of colleagues here in DC I would keep in touch with if I ever left.  It's important to have old favorites you can share referrals with.

Hi Mike- what an excellent reminder. Just as agents are urged to stay in touch with former clients, the same goes for other agents. You never know.

Hi Mike McCann - Nebraska Farm Land Broker it's interesting how people pop up out of nowhere looking for  us!  That just happend the other day.  A guy I've known since college has been emailing back and forth catching up and part of it was a friend that needed somebody in Phoenix. It's kind of like a home run - catch up with a dear old friend and meet a new client!

That is such good advice.  Back then it was harder to keep up with friends and business associates. The Internet has made it a lot easier.

Very nice, I did not know you were from the Springs? I was actually born in Nebraska and my family moved to Colorado when I was 3 months old, but I have socres of relatives still living the Cornhusker life!

Hi John Marshall - FORE! Where in Nebraska were you born at?

We lived in the Springs from 1992 to the very end of 2003.  I still worked a lot in the Springs in 2004 as I was transitioning.  We were transferred from Nebraska to the Springs for my wife's job with Principal Financial Group back in the day. I needed a job. When we moved there...the first agent we were referred to was horrible.  Two weeks later we went back with a different agent and she was golden and she suggested I go into the business and I am glad she did although the early years both in the Springs and after we moved here to Kearney were pretty lean!!
