Today, my husband and I went on a cruise...on Lake Erie! We took the same cruise 3 years ago on our wedding day, so this was our anniversary cruise! Those of you from the Cleveland area already know about the Nautica Queen. For those of you who don't, it's a beautiful little cruise ship that starts out on the Cuyahoga River, ferries out onto Lake Erie and comes back -- total time for the luncheon cruise is 2 hours. And what a fun time!! Great food, great service and a DJ *slash* Tour Guide telling corny jokes along with giving a very informative narrative. Oh yeah, can't forget the Macarena! Ok, so maybe I could've done without that.
Anyway, sitting on the upper deck, with the sun beating down on us and the wind turning my hair into a huge curly mess <smile>, I realized once again how much I adore my city! The skyline is perfect...not too big, and not too small. Just right. The new (since 1999) Cleveland Browns stadium, The Great Lakes Science Center, and the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame are all lined up on the lakeshore, and they make a beautiful picture postcard. I'll post my photos here in a day or 2...once I figure out the new camera. : )
Unfortunately, you can't see the Indians ballpark from the lake. They used to play at Cleveland Muncipal Stadium with the Browns, but back in 1994 they got their own field built on the other side of downtown. Jacob's Field. It was renamed this year and is now Progressive Field. Sorry...but it'll always be Jacob's Field to me. I'm such a rebel at times.
As we cruised along, I stared wistfully at One Cleveland Center, where I worked for Smith Barney 24 years ago. We were the building's 2nd tenant back then...it now has an occupancy of 90%!
Looking at our city as a new visitor might see it filled me with such pride! It's a beautiful town, and even though I now live in the suburbs, Cleveland is still my home.
They say "Home is where the heart is"...and my heart will always be right here on the shores of Lake Erie!
