The State of Hawaii has got to be the most indecisive State in the US when it comes to how to handle COVID19 and their most importatnt industry, tourism. We have seen the tourism industry shut down since April and businesses handcuffed on what to do due to the indicisiveness of the State.
Vacation rentals have been at the heart of some of the discussion. The State made means for hotels to be open, but not vacation rentals stating that hotels are essential, but vacation rentals are not. Obviously this drew legal attention with some changes being made to that, but minimal at that.
This week, once again, the State came out with a plan to open up tourism starting October 15. You can view detailed information on the plan here. The plan seems relatively good, but really can only tell once the State opens and how they enforce it. The greatest challenge will be determining who on island is supposed to be quarantining and who is not. Time will only tell how it works.
How has your State handled tourism and vacation rentals?
