Brian England hi Brian... I worked with a number of clients on appealing their property taxes. Wish I could appeal mine, but the market value they put on my house is still less than what I could sell it for.

I'm working with a seller who Title promised would get her refund from a tax appeal directly from the County post sale. Guess what, county says the refund stays with the property, even though she was the one who paid the overpayment. The credit was acknowledged prior to closing, but it had NOT posted to the tax account. She asked Title how to handle it, and they reassured her that she would get a refund check. Now??? Not sure the buyers are going to want to cut her a check.

Good Afternoon Nina Hollander

These are good things to know for seniors, disabled and disabled veterans. It IS surprising how many do not know what is available.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel hi Alexandra... I'm promoting it because I see Waxhaw put some information out there from time to time, but no else seems to be drawing attention to this great senior benefit.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD oh wow, Debb. I just hate it when people take advantage of others just because they think they can. Karma always bites those people in the fanny at some point or other, I believe.

Doug Dawes hi Doug... I agree. It is surprising how many people don't know what benefits might be due them. I've worked with veterans who had no clue they could do a VA loan... also hard to believe.

Morning Nina.

Depending on the home value, that could be a significant savings. I wonder, what percentage of those who qualify actually take advantage of it?

George Souto hi George... Waxhaw property taxes are not super low and in an environment where home values are rising there are quite a few people whose budgets have been hit badly.

James Dray good morning, James... I would have no clue how many people take advantage of Waxhaw's credits. I know on the other side of the border in SC, seniors do take advantage of the homesteading discount in a big way.

Joan Cox hi Joan... there are so many little nuances about how, when, how much when it comes to paying taxes from one town and one county to the next, I don't think most people can be on top of it.

Voters in Florida will see an constitutional amendment on the ballot that would allow a homestead property tax discount to be transferred to the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran. Currently, the homestead property tax discount for veterans expires upon their death and is not extended to their spouses. I expect that this proposal will pass with flying colors.
