A survey conducted recently by the group Tax Practice Advisor found that, because of COVID-19, nearly 1/3 of all Americans are unable to pay their taxes this year. This doesn't include the thousands of businesses that have already closed or soon will be because of COVID.
It's also not a new problem. In 2019, the IRS reported that over 15 million taxpayers have back taxes that are owed.
