Hispanic Heritage Month in Gaithersburg, Maryland

We're celebrating September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Gaithersburg in honor of American citizens whose ancestry can be traced back to Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Spanish speaking countries of the Caribbean. Hispanics have had a positive and varied influence on our country and our City through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. They have shaped and enhanced our national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multiethnic and multicultural customs of their communities. We'll announce activities soon.

This is a City of Gaithersburg announcement.

#DYK Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the middle of the month, as opposed to the end, because Sept. 15th marks the independence days of five Latin America countries:
🇨🇷 Costa Rica
🇲🇽 Mexico
Central & South America & the Spanish speaking countries of the Caribbean!

Countdown to Our Futurecensus
We only have one week left until the end of the 2020 Census. It's vitally important that EVERYONE be counted. Why?
  • It matters for decisions on where to put hospitals, fire stations, schools, & other public facilities.
  • It matters for Gaithersburg to receive its fair share of federal funding for things like Early Head Start, food assistance & affordable housing.
  • It matters when drawing legislative districts.
  • Businesses use the data to decide where to locate, which might mean more jobs in our area.
  • For every 100 people NOT counted in Maryland, our state could lose out on $1.8 million in federal funding over the next 10 years.
Be counted before the September 30 deadline. Fill out the Census online here

Hello Roy - there are definitely many opportunities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month in Los Angeles.  Sometimes, it seems to be a year-round celebration because of the history of California.  We are fortunate to live in a place where many countries play an active role on many levels.

I agree with  Michael Jacobs .  Santa Barbara County as well as the two adjacent counties of Ventura and San Luis Obispo have a large population of Hispanic people.  A

Sounds like an enriching month of learning and observing, Roy.  I'm glad Gaithersburg has this on the calendar.
