I first published the following on September 27, 2016. I'm resharing today for Throwback Thursday.
Have you ever had a day start off so weird... you just figured it was going to be "one of those days"?My day yesterday started out weird. I have a friend who won a bunch of free rounds of golf in a raffle, so we made arrangements to take advantage of some of them yesterday. She invited me and 2 other friends and we headed to a course called Lakeview Golf & Country Club in Soap Lake, Washington. This is about 55 miles from Wenatchee. We got there ahead of our scheduled tee time, only to realize the back 9 was closed for aeration. We decided not to waste the free rounds if we couldn't play the whole course. It's a semi-private course and isn't generally open to the public, although I have played there a few times during our traveling team events. Anyway, we decided to reschedule for a couple weeks from now (weather permitting).
As an alternate plan, we decided to book a tee time at Colockum Ridge Golf Course in Quincy, which was only a slight detour to our drive back to Wenatchee. When I unloaded my bags, I realized I had left my golf shoes in my car (at the park-and-ride) back in Wenatchee. The pro shop had NO shoes for sale and I was wearing flip flop sandals. I decided to just chip and putt my way through the day, since I had no decent (or safe) shoes to play in. Never hurts to practice the short game, right?
Turns out my friend, Sandy, had a pair of boat shoes in her car that fit me and they worked fine. Oh, and besides that, I had left my baggie of tees, ball markers and other misc tools in the cart at the clubhouse last Thursday after the Club Championship. I guess my brain was fried after the 34 hole competition. Anyway, I forged on in boat shoes and borrowed tees, markers and other tools. I shot one of my best games of the year, in spite of all the roadblocks. Go figure! For a day that started off so weird, it turned out awesome.
The day turned out awesome because we were all willing to be flexible. When one plan didn't work, we turned to another. We worked together. We were like little ants. When the roadblocks went up, we found a way around them, over them, or through them. We had a lot of laughs and a great time. I think the challenges made it an even better and more rewarding day.
So... carry on. Use the challenges in your day to make it awesome!
