I can’t believe it took me so long to feature this next artist on the Soundtrack. Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti) was a multi-talented actor, singer, and comedian. Dean was one of the most popular and enduring American entertainers of the mid-20th century.
Martin started his career as half of a comedy team with fellow comedian Jerry Lewis. In 1956 their partnership ended, and Martin pursued a solo career as a singer and then as an actor.
Martin was one of the core members of the infamous Rat Pack. He performed often in the Las Vegas nightclubs.
His smooth voice can be heard on dozens of hit songs including "Memories Are Made if This", "You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You", "Ain’t That a Kick in the Head" and the popular song "Volare".
True to his Italian roots Martin often included Italian lyrics in songs like Innamorata, Amore, and Volare.
Martin was also a major movie and television star. He had starring roles in many Hollywood movies such as Rio Bravo, The Son’s of Kate Elder, and Marriage on the Rocks, just to name a few. During the late 1960s, spy movies were very popular and Dean starred in his own series of films as Matt Helm, a not so secret agent.
He hosted a television variety show for many years before transitioning into the Dean Martin Celebrity Roast.
Today’s song That’s Amore was released in 1953 for the movie The Caddy. It has been re-recorded over the years and was featured in the 1987 film Moonstruck. It will have you smiling and singing along.
