Monday Musings: An Appointment With Life!

By now, if you follow our blog, you know we are steeped in practicing being in the here and now.  It is not by any means an easy practice, but as the years go by, we are improving.

This weekend I was thinking about the irrelevance of time, as I was texting with my niece who was finally on her way home from Thailand via Hong Kong, LAX, and finally today on her way home to Minneapolis.

She started her trip today, Monday (Hong Kong time) and arrived yesterday (California time).  This morning she is leaving for Minneapolis. This experience just solidified the idea that it is always NOW!

I am reading the book, Cooked, by Michael Pollan.  He has a line in the book, "when chopping onions, chop onions."  His point, whatever you do, be there and do it well.  And I do like chopping onions.  It means something good is about to hit the table!  Have a great day!

BTW-if you like cooking, the book is excellent.  It is split up in four parts; fire, water, air and earth (bbq, braising, bread and fermentation).  Pollan's best book, The Omnivore's Dilemma.

Raymond Henson, SRES, GRI we both love to cook, which has been a saving grace for us.  We prepare a "mise en place" (It refers to the setup required before cooking,) especially when a dish has a lot of chopping involved.  I will check the book out and thank you for the recommendation.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- I would say it is a very Happy Monday now that your niece has completed the last leg of her very long journey home. Did you ever see the movie The Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves?  trying to figure out that "time" was hard. The late Roger Ebert suggested that we quit trying to figure it out but instead, sit back and enjoy the story for what it was.

HI Alexandra... I've always had a hard time relating to people who either live in the past or in their hopes for the future... they just let life pass them by. Nothing wrong with having hopes and dreams for the future, but not to the exclusion of being present in the now.

Wonderful quotes and the example is a good one of it always being now. The photo makes me feel as if I could fall into the middle and just disappear.

Ya gotta love the colors of that blossom, Alexandra.  It reminds me of antiques, tea and silver.  I don't exactly know why, but it does!

Hi there, Ron and Alexandra Seigel - So happy Allie is on her way home. Bet she is too. I too appreciate the quotes and the reminder to stay present. Finnegan is a big help there. Happy Tuesday.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD One of the reason to love furry creatures is that they do keep you in the present.  Allie is something else, while away she moved from one place to another with the help of her roomates.  When she landed in Mpls, one of her friends parked her car in short term parking yesterday, so she could drive herself home, and she had hired a U-Haul truck so that she could move the rest of her stuff to the new place...A

Hello Alexandra and Ron - time is such an important of life.  Time seems to fly(pass) so quickly at times yet it moves like molasses at others.  Staying present is difficult.  Many, if not most, things that are worth it, are.

Hi Ron and Alex: I'm glad your niece got back safely from Hong Kong.  We used to visit there in the 70's. It was beautiful not like it is now.  Loce to read your wise sayings. Have a grea week.
