So far the first 5½ months of 2020 have been a really wild ride. January was a good month then February rolled around. This is not a pretty story.
I took sick (flu), recovered then got really, really sick. So sick it took Pam down with me for a good 10-14 days. During that time COVID-19 made itself known. It was a pandemic and I had never heard the phrase, "We live in unprecedented times" so many times. We received multiple calls from our 3 sons reminding us we are NOW OLD (no we're not!!) and instructed us we have to stay indoors. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, when was that torch passed on?
It took ½ of March to fully recover and get used to going to meetings via ZOOM, Go To Meeting, & Blue Jeans, AND just WHY does everyone like to schedule meetings on Wednesdays? We were locked down and adjusting to doing business in a different manner. The government had shut down the economy BUT Real Estate, in our neck of the woods, chugged right along
Meanwhile, I got my taxes to the taxman way before 15 April which surprised my tax guy...lol. He's used to filing extensions and doing mine for October! We were filed before 15 April THEN the government extended the filing date to 15 July...lol
NEXT, was Murder Hornets and a bug that only emerges every 17 years and could cause extensive damage to vegetation, ALL on top of tick season and tics that carry all kinds of diseases. We nearly lost our youngest to a tick-borne disease *Babesiosis* AND, in Massachusetts, we have to be on the lookout for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis EEE mosquito. Here's the quartet.
My heart grew despondent as we witnessed a police officer murder George Floyd which brought on protests & violent demonstrations all over the country. This has caused further division in the country since politics and media hype exacerbates the issues. What is happening to the country so many fought and died for?
WHERE'S MY STIMULUS CHECK?? We finally got ours last week. Nearly threw the darn thing away since it looked like a piece of junk mail! PHEW! Good thing we didn't. I guess lots of folks have! Instead of a check, we received a debit card so I transferred the proceeds into our bank account.
ALL during this first 5½ months of 2020, The Massachusetts Real Estate Market just CHUGGED along. It was the Little Engine That Could... even with lower than low inventory, masks, gloves, virtual Open Houses and showings (for many), booties, disinfectants, AND a big Thank You Lord for Electronic Signatures.
These were the adjustments we made to keep doing business. We were OPEN just Differently. The Realtor® Community rallied together and We Got It Done AND even had some fun along the way. I'll be glad when we're not required to physically distance ourselves from one another. I mean, it's good to be able to gather, but 6 feet just lacks the intimacy we are used to, ya know what I mean?
I wonder what the 2nd half of 2020 will bring?
No predictions here other than with all this manure there has to be a pony around here someplace, right? =:o)
I'm using this as my entry into the June contest
