Carlsbad’s noteworthy TGIF Jazz in the Parks series is set to begin again.
For many who live in Carlsbad, or in nearby towns, this jazz concerts series is a highlight of the summer – which, BTW the way, is this Friday, the 20th!
Heading into the 23rd season, the highly popular event is another one of the top reasons to love living in Carlsbad and one of the many things to do (click Carlsbad Things to Do in my Tag Cloud for a full list). Here’s an opportunity to enjoy 10 successive Friday evenings of music in one of Carlsbad’s gorgeous public parks for FREE, lounging in chairs or on blankets, enjoying al fresco dinner and our fabulous summer weather.
Jazz, of course, is a highlight, but you will also hear latin, blues, and more. Each year there are some favorite bands that return, as well as some new offerings.
The series begins this coming Friday at Stagecoach Park (the site of the first 4 concerts) at 3420 Camino de los Coches, and runs from 6 – 8. You can expect several thousand folks to hang out for this event. There are light refreshments available but most people bring their own picnics to enjoy. (Concerts 5 through 7 are at Poinsettia Park, and the last 3 are held at Calavera Hills Park).
Here’s the full line-up of performers for the series. Looks like another good one.
The other neat thing about this concert series is that it is a fund raiser for the city. Yes, the concerts are free, but there are numerous raffle opportunities for terrific prizes during intermission. The money that is raised funds the Carlsbad Friends of the Arts, which supports the concert series, the Cannon Art Galley (artist receptions and exhibits, and family and educational events) and much more.
So put it on your calendar for the next 10 Fridays. TGIF!!
